Description
In June 2025, after six years of building community and activist work, we had to close DOM EQ – the oldest LGBTQIAP+ community centre in Poland – and leave our home. Now, we need your help to save DOM EQ and reopen it in a new, bigger, and even more accessible space!
Together, we’ve built something truly special: a free of charge, inclusive, safe space always full of life – a place where everyone can belong. For six years, we’ve shared meals, hosted workshops, organized support groups, held discussions, and created a network of meaningful friendships and connections. We’ve faced political hate campaigns, “LGBT-Free Zones,” pandemic and full-scale invasion in Ukraine – and we’ve always been together. We’ve written an important chapter of Polish queerstory!
Why we needed a new home?
Our old building was rented from private landlords. Condition of the house was worse with every year while rent skyrocketed, and repairs became impossible - especially that we had to pay for them ourselves.
Funders often cover activities, but not infrastructure. This is a widespread problem for community centres like ours. While many of our projects are grant-funded, DOM EQ is sustained primarily by private donors, 1.5% tax contributions, and our own education programs that we run for city institutions, business partners, schools and activist programs.
But this isn’t the end – it’s a new beginning
We’ve already secured a new space, bigger and more accessible, but it needs renovation:
- Renovation: 350,000 PLN (~€80,500 / $87,500)
- Equipment: 150,000 PLN (~€34,500 / $37,500)
- Rent & admin costs: 50,000–70,000 PLN (~€12,000–16,800 / $13,000–18,000)
Why DOM EQ matters?
- Open 6–7 days a week, always free of charge
- Accessible for people with different mobility
- Substance-free third space for LGBTQIAP+ community and activists
- 400–500 visits each month
- Safe space for support groups, workshops, movie nights, community cooking, legal and medical advice, art exhibitions, garden & library
- Hosting over 15 NGOs, countless queer/feminist collectives and informal initiatives
- Vital hub for Ukrainian refugees, migrants, and pro-equality movements
Our Flying DOM EQ
Since July 2025, we’ve gone mobile – holding events, support groups, community meals, food bank distributions, and anonymous STD testing in friendly venues across Kraków.
