Description

Greetings!

We are Zsófi( mother) and Soma( son) from our 2 acre homestead in Transylvania. We moved here, near the forest almost 3 years ago when our house was finally somewhat finished(all done with our own and our families hands). We love gardening!

From the beginning my goal was to grow as much food as possible. I learned a lot about vegetable farming but realized we are far from being self sufficient. To be off the grid, we would have to invest a lot, which we can’t at the moment, but we do have a small solar system, which serves us with electricity, more or less😆

I also started growing flowers and making bouquets. In the summer of 2023 I was going to the farmers market to sell my flowers. It was fun and motivating, but I quickly realized, selling 5-7 bouquets once a week in our little town’s small market will not be a serious livelihood for our family. This autumn I decided to go big, as big as I can, to sell to florist and wholesale, produce enough for dried flowers, hopefully weddings and organizing my own wreath making workshops with my own local material. For this I need to invest in professional seeds, seed starting materials, racks, perennial plants, shrubs. I’d like to extend my season ( which is on the shorter side- it’s cold here) with a polytunnel and an orangery adjacent to our house.

In 2024 I will be growing mostly flowers that dry well and bright focals for my market bouquets. But I want slowly to build up the farm with long lived perennials like roses, peonies and shrubs for foliage and winter decorations. I already bought and planted in November 65 peony roots, which cost me a great deal, almost a month’s salary. Many plants and professional seeds cost almost the same as anywhere else, but salaries in Romania are significantly less. I need 2-3 months to be able to put aside those 300€ for my next seed order, which is in January. The season starts that early with eucalyptus.

Any help will be greatly appreciated and those more substantial ones rewarded with dried flower art and leaf painting. Thank you for making our dreams possible!
