Dear Friends and Animal Lovers,

I am Silke and this is my desperate plea for the life of Violet, a sweet and gentle rescue pup who is finding herself in a dire situation.

Violet’s mum, my friend Tiffany from the USA, was tragically forced to leave Violet behind after being evicted by a greedy landlord who heartlessly threw her out on a freezing cold night, simply because he wanted his property back. Yes, that is actually legal in the USA!

Stranded on a down-trodden trailer park surrounded by dangerous drunks in the middle of nowhere in the mountains of Arizona, Tiffany had to make a tough decision on the spot: She could continue trying to find decent accommodation in a small town with an acute housing shortage and social issues or use her last funds to find somewhere else to create a better life for herself and her pup.

In a state of despair and with no family or friends around her to help, Tiffany made the heart-wrenching decision to prioritize her own safety. She scraped together every last cent for an emergency flight to Bulgaria for herself and Violet, where I offered her refuge in my home.

Due to a visual impairment, Tiffany was unable to drive Violet to the nearest airport. The driver she had arranged let her down within hours of the booked flight. Together, we tried desperately to find an alternative driver, but to no avail. Nobody in the area was willing to transport the dog in their car. To make matters worse, the animal export certificate for Violet expired whilst we were still searching.

With a heavy heart, Tiffany placed her beloved pup into a local boarding kennel, hoping to buy Violet more time and praying that they would be reunited soon. At least that way, Violet would be safe for the meantime – a better option than both of them sleeping rough in the wilderness or camping in a tent, which would have been the only other option at the time.

Now, Tiffany is trying to build a new life here in Bulgaria at my place, but the costs associated with Violet’s care and her journey home are overwhelming. Tiffany's funds have run dry, and Violet's kennel stay is coming to a end soon.

In the USA, it is standard practise to put down shelter dogs after 3 days, so Violet will most likely suffer the same fate if we cannot raise the necessary funds to bring her to Bulgaria by the time her booked kennel stay expires at the end of July. With an exploding population of stray dogs in the area, there is zero chance of finding her a foster home or adopter. This is a place where dogs count for less than the dust under the locals' shoes!

Violet doesn't deserve this fate! Severely abused, starved and regularly beaten within an inch of her life from birth, Violet was too weak to stand when Tiffany rescued her last December. The young pup was subsisting in a ramshackle hut that provided no shelter at all in the freezing temperatures. Since then, Tiffany has dedicated every waking minute to rehabilitating Violet's physical and mental health and training her to be a functioning, happy dog.

The two have been inseparable, supporting each other through the tough times in temporary accommodation surrounded by socially challenged neighbours. For it all to end in tragedy now is simply unacceptable in my mind.

I am flying to the USA in late July to rescue Violet and bring her to her new forever home here in Bulgaria. However, the costs for this urgent mission are beyond what either Tiffany or I can afford. We need to raise $3,000 for flights, animal export documentation, and a rental car.
