Here we provide the package including hiking descriptions, interactive map, coordinates, tips, and much more. 


Mount Juchtas is located in the hinterland of the city of Heraklion and is 811 metres high. According to legend, the mountain is the face of Zeus, the sleeping father of the gods. This hike starts at the village of Archanes and first leads along the road for a while, later on a path steadily uphill through vineyards and then on a marked small hiking trail up to the 1st summit to the antennas. From there you have a fantastic view of the city of Heraklion and the surrounding countryside. The route then continues past the archaeological site of a Minoan summit sanctuary to the 2nd summit. There you will find the church of Afentis Christos. From there, the steep descent begins on a path back to Archanes.

 

The hike is not always possible due to meteorological conditions (wind above wind force 4)!

Here we provide the package including hiking descriptions, interactive map, coordinates, tips, and much more. 


Mount Juchtas is located in the hinterland of the city of Heraklion and is 811 metres high. According to legend, the mountain is the face of Zeus, the sleeping father of the gods. This hike starts at the village of Archanes and first leads along the road for a while, later on a path steadily uphill through vineyards and then on a marked small hiking trail up to the 1st summit to the antennas.
