DEAR — Animation movie
DEAR is the first animated feature film that takes artists seriously. It’s a story about a young artist processing grief through obsessive creation—his work appearing across the city while his personal life collapses. Before the film releases, the character exists as a real artist on social media, building an organic following. Then a gallery exhibition reveals he’s fictional. The reveal becomes the campaign.
It positions Belgium as a world-class animation producer while telling a story the art world desperately needs: one about artists themselves, not art as commodity.
Visual style combines documentary realism with surreal inner worlds where paint moves like water. Think Arcane meets Wolfwalkers meets Inside Out—but grounded in actual artistic practice.
Partners confirmed: Fortiche Production (Arcane), A Private View, Coup de Foudre. Netflix in preliminary discussions.
Timeline: 4 years. Release: 2028/2029.
