We have a home, we cannot lose it."

We have a home, we cannot lose it."

Descrizione

Jessy and Ronald are smiling at each other. They have just returned from school, and they are truly happy.

They have finally found their place on Earth, at the Agandi Foundation children's home in Mbarara.

They no longer go hungry, and they have their own beds, along with 23 other children.

Fortunately, they can now simply enjoy their childhood. Their smiles give me strength every day, especially now, in such a difficult time for us. It's good that the children are unaware, they don't know the cost and how close to the edge we are.

Maintaining our home costs 6000€ per month. This covers bills, food, caregiver salaries, and school fees. Without money, our operation is impossible, and we cannot imagine failing our children after so many years of hard work. Help us survive another month. With your assistance, I know our children's home will be secure.

How did our mission begin?

I heard the stories of many children, stories of sadness, suffering, hunger, and despair. A distant dream emerged in my mind, a dream to help them—feed them, provide shelter, maybe just give them a hug. The dream of being a real change in this world arose. I know what you're thinking. Another person wants to change the world...

That's how my journeys to Uganda began. First as a volunteer in a children's home, school, and in the establishment of other facilities.

The dream of something more was germinating in my mind. It's obvious that you can't help everyone, but how you help is important, and I had my vision of assistance. The needs of abandoned Ugandan orphans were enormous. In the course of their short lives, they experienced so much pain and suffering. I knew I had to do more. That's when the idea of founding a children's home in Uganda was born, to bring real changes to these children's lives. Ensure their safety, nutrition, and education.

After many months of searching, I found a suitable place. I rented a house. With the help of family and friends, we bought everything necessary. We were ready to welcome the first children.

The first child under our care is Betty.

I receive a call from the local police; an abandoned child needs help. Full of apprehension but also hopeful for the opportunity to help, I get in the car and head to the location. At the police station, an officer shows me the abandoned infant.

The child looks about six months old. Imagine my surprise and horror when it turns out she's already a year old! She was so malnourished...

Moreover, it later turned out that her mother was addicted to drugs. Increasing sadness engulfs me; the little one was abandoned under a house. The police suspect that the mother was looking for drugs at that time. Unfortunately, she was never found.

Betty had incredible luck; I couldn't believe this story! She survived thanks to a female dog that was raising her puppies and shared milk with the little child!! Unbelievable!

I took Betty home. Fear overwhelms me on the spot; she's so fragile and weak that I'm afraid any simple task might harm her. Along with the caregiver, we bathed and dressed her. Due to advanced malnutrition, I had to create a special nutrition program for her so that meals were small and frequent. The first days were very difficult; I felt anxious all the time.

When the food on her plate ran out, Betty panicked. She needed some time to feel safe enough and make sure she would never run out of food.

Progress came very quickly. After just one week, the little one stood on her own by the barrier. After a few weeks, she began taking her first steps. Joy overwhelms me, and I feel growing peace.

Betty has been with us for six years now. She's an intelligent girl. She likes to play with other children; she sometimes has arguments. Of course, she has her quirks. How good it is that she can have them.
