Ahmed Questha es un compañero y amigo mío, enfermero del área quirúrgica del hospital Nasser, en Khan Younis, Gaza.

Ahmed, al igual que cientos de miles de gazatíes, ha sido obligado por el ejército israelí a abandonar su casa, o lo que quedara de ella, y dirigirse a una zona a la que el ejército llama zona humanitaria, en donde se les dijo que no correrían riesgo de ser bombardeados. Se trata de una franja muy estrecha, al lado del mar, en donde miles y miles de gazatíes viven apiñados, en chabolas improvisadas, y en donde, a pese de que Israel les dijo que ahí estarían seguros, también son bombardeados (bombardean chabolas). En este lugar, llamado Al Mawasi, cada gazatí tiene un espacio vital bastante más pequeño que una celda de prisioneros de Guantánamo. La falta de intimidad, de higiene y de seguridad son apabullantes. 

La tienda en la que Ahmed tiene que alojar a parte de  familia es muy pequeña, y está rota. Son más de quince miembros, entre hijos y nietos. Ahmed me pidió ayuda para comprar una tienda nueva, una buena carpa, más grande y hecha con algún material algo más noble que les permita no sofocarse tanto de día (por culpa del veraniego calor abrasador). Los precios de estas tiendas rondan los 700 dólares. En realidad deberían de ser más baratas, pero como Israel bloquea la entrada de ayuda, el precio de las pocas tiendas que hay a la venta ha subido mucho. 

Ahmed perdió hace poco a uno de sus hijos, Abed Rasek, de 19 años, en un bombardeo. Logró sobrevivir a él, pero murió a los pocos días debido a la infección de sus heridas. Lo poco que hablé con él, me dio la impresión de ser un muchacho brillante, muy bondadoso y muy buen estudiante. Estaba esperanzado por su recuperación, por el futuro que le esperaba cuando se curara. 

Ojalá pudiéramos ayudar a Ahmed a proporcionar un mayor bienestar a su familia. Un pequeño gesto por nuestra parte, significaría tanto para él y los suyos. No podemos cambiar los pétreos y fríos corazones de los soldados y políticos israelíes, ni tampoco podemos devolverle su antigua casa a la que no puede volver, pero si pudieran comprarse una tienda mejor, sus días serían bastante menos incómodos.

Ahmed, come centinaia di migliaia di abitanti di Gaza, è stato costretto dall'esercito israeliano a lasciare casa sua, o ciò che ne rimaneva, e a dirigersi verso una zona chiamata "zona umanitaria" dall'esercito, dove si dice loro che non correranno rischi di essere bombardati. Si tratta di una striscia molto stretta, accanto al mare, dove migliaia di gazani vivono ammassati in baraccopoli improvvisate, e dove, nonostante Israele abbia detto che lì sarebbero stati al sicuro, vengono comunque bombardati (bombardano le baracche). In questa località, chiamata Al Mawasi, ogni Gazano ha uno spazio vitale molto più piccolo di una cella di Guantánamo. La mancanza di privacy, igiene e sicurezza sono schiaccianti.

La tenda in cui Ahmed deve ospitare parte della famiglia è molto piccola ed è rotta. Sono più di quindici membri, tra figli e nipoti. Ahmed mi ha chiesto aiuto per acquistare una nuova tenda, un buon tendone più grande e fatto con materiali più pregiati che permettano loro di non soffocare così tanto durante il giorno (a causa del calore estivo ardente). Il prezzo di queste tende è di circa 700 dollari. In realtà dovrebbero essere più economiche, ma poiché Israele blocca l'ingresso degli aiuti, il prezzo delle poche tende in vendita è molto aumentato.

Ahmed ha recentemente perso uno dei suoi figli, Abed Rasek, di 19 anni, in un bombardamento. È riuscito a sopravvivere, ma è morto pochi giorni dopo a causa di un'infezione delle sue ferite. Il poco che ho parlato con lui mi ha dato l'impressione di un giovane brillante, molto gentile e un ottimo studente. Era speranzoso per la sua guarigione e pieno di speranza per il futuro che lo aspettava quando si sarebbe ripreso.

Speriamo di poter aiutare Ahmed a migliorare il benessere della sua famiglia. Un piccolo gesto da parte nostra significherebbe molto per lui e i suoi cari. Non possiamo cambiare i cuori di pietra e freddi dei soldati e dei politici israeliani, né possiamo restituire la sua vecchia casa, a cui non può tornare, ma se potessero comprarsi una tenda migliore, i loro giorni sarebbero molto meno scomodi.

Ahmed Questha is a friend and a colleague of mine, a nurse in the surgical ward at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza.

Ahmed, like hundreds of thousands of Gazans, was forced by the Israeli army to leave his home, or what was left of it, and go to an area the army calls a "humanitarian zone", where they told him he would be safe from bombing. It is a very narrow strip, next to the sea, where thousands and thousands of Gazans live crammed into makeshift shelters, and where, despite Israel saying they would be safe, they are also bombed (shelters are bombed). In this place, called Al Mawasi, each Gazan has a living space much smaller than a cell in Guantanamo. The lack of privacy, hygiene, and security is overwhelming.

The tent where Ahmed has to house some of his family is very small and broken. There are more than fifteen members, including children and grandchildren. Ahmed asked me for help to buy a new tent, a good, larger tent made of better materials that would help them not to suffocate so much during the day (due to the scorching summer heat). The prices for these tents are around $700. They should actually be cheaper, but since Israel blocks aid entry, the price of the few tents on sale has gone up significantly.

Recently, Ahmed lost one of his sons, Abed Rasek, aged 19, in a bombing. He survived it but died days later from an infection in his wounds. From the brief conversations I had with him, I got the impression of a bright young man, very kind, and a good student. He was hopeful about recovery and full of hope for the future awaiting him once he healed.

I wish we could help Ahmed improve his family's wellbeing. A small gesture from us would mean so much to him and his loved ones. We can't change the stony, cold hearts of Israeli soldiers and politicians, nor can we bring back his old home to which he cannot return, but if they could buy a better tent for their family, their days would be much less uncomfortable.

احمد قشطة زميلي، وهو ممرض في قسم الجراحة بمستشفى الناصر في خان يونس.

مثل مئات الآلاف من سكان غزة، اضطر أحمد من قبل الجيش الإسرائيلي لمغادرة منزله، أو ما تبقى منه، والتوجه إلى منطقة يسمونها المنطقة الإنسانية، حيث قيل لهم إنهم لن يتعرضوا للخطر من القصف. إنها شريط ضيق جدًا، بجانب البحر، حيث يعيش الآلاف من سكان غزة في خيام مبنية بشكل عشوائي، وعلى الرغم من أن إسرائيل قالت لهم إن هذا المكان سيكون آمنًا، إلا أنهم يتعرضون للقصف أيضًا (يقصفون الخيام). في هذا الموقع، المسمى المواسي، كل غزي يمتلك مساحة حياة أصغر بكثير من زنزانة في غوانتانامو. قلة الخصوصية والنظافة والأمان مرهقة للغاية.

نأمل أن نتمكن من مساعدة أحمد على تحسين رفاهية عائلته. لفتة صغيرة منا ستعني الكثير له ولعائلته. لا يسعنا تغيير قلوب الجنود والسياسيين الإسرائيليين الصماء والباردة، ولا يمكننا استعادة منزله القديم الذي لا يستطيع العودة إليه، لكن إذا استطاعوا شراء خيمة أفضل، ستكون أيامهم أقل إزعاجًا بكثير.
