We - students at Babeș-Bolyai University and Technical University of Cluj-Napoca gathered together under the name Cluj Students for Palestine (Studenți clujeni pentru Palestina) – to demand that our universities take institutional responsibility and that they divest immediately from any entities that take part or share profit in the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip and the apartheid in the West Bank. 

We believe that as long as our universities continue to be tied to other universities, companies, institutions and other Israeli or international entities that take part or share profit in the Palestinian genocide we can no longer remain silent. Our action is a direct response to the complete lack of initiative on behalf of our universities to partake in any institutional measures at hand to position themselves on the side of justice and to help combat the genocide in Gaza, according to The International Court of Justice (ICJ), Order of 26 January 2024. We are here because we believe that everybody has the right to live peacefully regardless of their ethnicity, skin colour or religion and we want to create a space liberated from any form of discrimination including antisemitism, racism and fascism. We are here to say NO to complicity.

We exercise and support the right of all students – regardless of their academic affiliation – to come together and to protest peacefully, also encouraging constructive dialogue between students and their universities’ management for the solutioning of our demands.
