Hi, I am involved with a children's home in western Ukraine that takes care of up to 30 boys. The boys have many varying and difficult backgrounds and some have passed through a number of other homes until arriving at our 'Family Home'. The freedoms and responsibilities of independent life can be a difficult adjustment that doesn't always go according to plan. That is why I hope to establish a half-way house that will offer the boys a chance to live independently while they are still under the guidance of their carers. Usually the older teens leave Bortniki village for college or work at age 15, so, the house, which is located in the nearest town, is aimed at the boys who are in their final three years with us.
The house will also be available to returning 'older' boys and students who are willing to take on the role of guide and teacher. Others, also, at times, need a place to get going again if they meet hard times. This is a security that the boys currently don't have.
At the moment the house has been renovated to the level of having a new roof and heating system. Foundation repair needs to be explored and carried out if necessary, before continuing cosmetic repairs internally.
