Hi, we are Ellie and Mark. I'm disabled through multiple health issues and struggle with severe mental health issues. We moved to Hungary to help me have a better quality of life. My husband Mark is my rock and full time carer. When we moved here just over 5 years ago, we initially thought the neighbouring house was empty. But, it didn't take long before we realised a quirky old lady lived there. For about a year, we had no idea what she was called, all she ever said was Jó napot. So we gave her that nickname. As time went by, we realised everyone called her Nancy. She could be quite annoying at times, knocking on our door or windows at all hours asking for ciggies. But on the whole, we didn't mind helping her out with things, she clearly needed it and her health was rapidly deteriorating. She got very ill and went to hospital then stayed with family for six months. It seemed odd not having her around. When she came home, she was clearly very unwell. Nearly every morning she came for a coffee, bread cutting, meat slicing . Mark would help her with her coat or cardigan, change her light bulb regularly, we'd even cut her finger nails and take food round to her. She adored our cats, always talking to them and one or two would sit round with her. In October 2023, she was taken back into hospital by ambulance. We would never see her again. She passed away January 2024. We actually really miss her. She had so little, her home was in a bad way, but she pottered around and smiled, and was always very grateful for any help. After her death we talked about the possibility of buying the property, me with the intention of increasing our land, planting trees for wood, space for animals etc. Mark though, had other ideas! He really wanted to renovate the house and make it a small holiday rental apartment. After several months, Mark managed to catch Norbi, her son cutting the grass, he wasn't sure what they wanted to do, so Mark just left it telling him we'd be interested if they wanted to sell. Problem was, Mark forgot to give him his phone number! They live in Pécs so didn't come down often. Thankfully, Facebook exists and a few weeks later, our friend spotted a post on a Facebook group! She let us know immediately and contact was made. A few messages later, they arranged to come see us. We came to a mutually agreeable price and the deal was done. Just 2 weeks later, contracts signed and keys received. During the process, we learnt that Nancy was really called Anna, but people called her Nancy, so hence the name, Anna Kis Háza. Anna's little house. The condition inside the house is quite horrendous and Mark has started the work on it. We had bought all the tools and equipment, the windows, removed all the old render, started replacing bricks, things were going well. Until morning on October 15th, we came round to find we had been burgled. Everything gone. Hand tools, equipment, petrol, buckets, brush cutter, hammer drill, chainsaw, tool bags, literally everything we need and purchased for the job. I am absolutely heartbroken by what's happened. We have a very limited budget, to replace all our stolen items is going to cost us approximately 165000 to 190000 Hungarian forints. That is a huge amount to us and means our project can't continue. The police are involved, the forensic team have been. We hope the culprit can be caught. Along with the power and petrol tools, we need to replace items such as lump hammers, brick hammers, screw drivers, drill bits, spanner kits, pliers, wire strippers, tool bags, normal hammers, chisels, scrapers, mortar tools, plastering tools, concrete mixer attachments, screws, locks, nails, soldering equipment, pruning saws, Stanley knives, the list of stolen items feels endless. They even stole our petrol can! We would also like to install security cameras on the property. I can provide evidence of everything including my health issues.
