I amVita Dóra, 47 years old.

I was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (WHO grade 4) in January this year. It is a very aggressive type of brain tumour. In a short period of time, it grew an oedema of almost 6 cm around itself, only thanks to the extremely fast neurosurgical intervention that it did not immediately die. I would like to thank Dr. István Kapás and Dr. Levente Ilyés, among others, for their help.

It all started with a neck pain at the beginning of January, I thought my neck had simply gone out, I have had this before. The following week I started vomiting, I couldn't concentrate or read, it became suspicious. I was lucky because I managed to get to a private neurological appointment on Friday. Here the doctor was very reasonable and told me to go to the emergency room immediately. We got there around 4 pm, and by 1.30 am I had the diagnosis: the CT scan showed something in my brain that shouldn't be there. I was immediately taken to hospital for further tests over the weekend. They said it was a life-threatening condition, so on Monday morning I was first on the surgery list. Fortunately, the operation went well, but even with chemotherapy and concurrent radiotherapy, the histology shows that I have a life expectancy of about 16 months.

I thought about it for a while and then decided to take the gloves off and try to get the evil out of my body anyway. 😊 I learned from my colleague Ádám Pásztory that there is a treatment developed in Germany that costs 80,000 euros. This is made up of two parts, the diagnostics is €20,000 and the production of the personalised vaccine is another €60,000. This immunotherapy is achieving very good results, some patients are already at the six-year mark and are currently doing well. A Nature article on the procedure can be found here. Unfortunately, this procedure is not available in Hungary and is not subsidised by social security. We have started on this path, but we are starting on a loan.

So now I turn to you: please help me to raise this amount! Many small things make a big difference, the sea is vast, but it is made up of drops - even the price of a coffee or a bar of chocolate counts. I think I have plenty to do here on Earth. For example, my brother says I have a lot of animals to save, and I have to cook his favourite catfish stew for his 70th birthday 😅 And my mum says I have to outlive him, and she plans to live for at least another 20 years. ❤️ So there's no way out, I have to buckle up and get well, there's no other option.

The reason why we are collecting in euros is because we have to pay the clinic in euros, so any change in the forint-euro exchange rate will not affect the result of the collection.
