Description

In English below.

Rita Rhithrogena – the stream-dwelling mayfly – is to be an illustrated book about this rare mayfly, whose last remaining Danish habitat is in Højen Bæk, south of Vejle.

This mayfly has the toughest nymph; it is incredibly fast and excellent at clinging to stones in the flowing water.

The illustrated book is written in child-friendly language and features fact boxes, so that nature lovers can learn about the mayfly.

The money will go towards paying the illustrator and the printers.

My aim is to raise awareness of this fascinating insect and its amazing habitat in Højen Bæk.

The photograph of the adult mayfly has been kindly provided by Morten DD, and the illustration of the mayfly over Højen Bæk was painted by Mia Mouridsen from www.illumia.dk

Rita Rhithrogena – The March Brown Mayfly – will be the subject of a picture book about this rare mayfly and its last remaining Danish habitat in Højen Bæk, south of Vejle.

Rhithrogena germanica, its Latin name, has the coolest nymph. It is super-fast and really good at clinging to rocks in the flowing water.

The book is written in child-friendly language, and there are fact boxes for adult readers, so nature lovers can learn something about the mayfly, whether you’re 5 or 95 years old.

The money will be used to pay the illustrator and the printer.

My aim is to raise awareness of this fascinating insect and its extraordinary habitat in Højen Bæk.

Højen Bæk is a Natura 2000 site, which biologists refer to as a biodiversity hotspot.
