My name is Fabio Toscano, dog trainer and owner of the “Allevamento di Casa Toscano” project. My vision is to go beyond traditional breeding, creating new Italian dog breeds that embody the finest qualities of temperament, health and beauty.

My aim is not merely to breed dogs, but to shape the future of Italian dog breeding. Through careful genetic selection and a targeted breeding programme, I intend to create two new breeds:

Italian Wolfdog: A proud and intelligent dog, with an innate protective instinct and a versatility that makes it suitable for a wide range of uses. Definition of Selection Objectives:

• Physical Characteristics: Wolf-likeappearance , with a robust and agile muscular build.
• Medium to large size, suitable for various activities.
• Weather-resistant coat.
• Behavioural Characteristics: Balancedtemperament , with a strong protective instinct.
• High intelligence and ability to learn.
• Docile and loyal to its owner.
• Adaptable to various environments and situations.
• Health and Longevity: No hereditary genetic diseases.
• Good physical constitution and resistance to disease.
• Longevity.

2. Selection of Founding Breeding Dogs:

• Czechoslovakian Wolfdog:Contribution of wolf-like characteristics and a balanced temperament.
• Assessment of health and pedigree.
• Dobermann:Contribution of intelligence, trainability and protective instinct.
• Screening for hip and elbow dysplasia, dilated cardiomyopathy and other genetic diseases.
• Rhodesian Ridgeback:Contributes robustness, stamina and a balanced temperament.
• Screening for hip and elbow dysplasia, dermoid sinus and other genetic diseases.
• Genetic testing:Carry out comprehensive genetic testing on breeding dogs to identify any hereditary diseases.
• Use the test results to exclude dogs carrying diseases from breeding.

3. Mating Programme and Puppy Selection:

• Targeted Mating:Select breeding dogs based on desired characteristics and genetic compatibility.
• Carefully monitor litters and record all relevant information.
• Puppy Assessment:Assess puppies from birth to identify those with the desired characteristics.
• Carry out temperament and trainability tests.
• Carry out regular veterinary checks to monitor the puppies’ health.
• Selection of Puppies for Breeding:Select only puppies with the best physical, behavioural and health characteristics for breeding.
• Exclude puppies with genetic or behavioural defects from breeding.

4. Monitoring and Continuous Assessment:

• Data Recording:Keep detailed records of all dogs, litters and assessment results.
• Evaluation of Results:Evaluate the results of the breeding programme and make adjustments where necessary.
• Monitor the health and temperament of the dogs over time.
• Collaboration with Experts:Collaborate with vets, geneticists and other industry experts to ensure the success of the breeding programme.
