• This fundraiser has been organised to cover the costs of the rescue operation (helicopter), medical treatment and rehabilitation for our friend Paweł VEGA Wierzbowski, who was involved in a hang-gliding accident during a competition in Austria.

• Paweł is a hang-glider pilot and designer. He has been involved in the sport for 50 years – practically since the very beginnings of hang-gliding. He used to manufacture hang-gliders under the VEGA brand; today, despite his age, he continues to fly actively and competes in hang-gliding competitions.

• During the recent competition in Greifenburg, Austria, Paweł had an accident: his wing caught on a tree and he fell to the ground from a height of about 20 metres. He broke both legs, damaged his spine and suffered numerous bruises and other minor injuries. Of course, he also lost his glider. Paweł had taken out an insurance policy, and the insurance company covered part of the rescue costs, amounting to EUR 10,000. The total cost of the operation (mainly the helicopter flight) amounted to EUR 17,000. Our colleague must cover the difference of EUR 7,000 from his own funds. 

• The funds raised will be used to cover the costs of the rescue operation (EUR 7,000), with the remainder going towards his rehabilitation following his hospital treatment.

* This appeal for donations is to cover the costs of the rescue (helicopter), treatment and rehabilitation of our friend Paweł “VEGA” Wierzbowski, who was injured in a hang-gliding accident during a competition in Austria.

* Pawel is a pilot and hang glider designer. He has been active in this field for 53 years, since the early days of hang gliding. He used to produce kites under the VEGA brand. Despite his age (73), he still successfully takes part in kite-flying competitions.

* Pawel recently had an accident at a competition in Greifenburg, Austria. His kite grazed a tree, and he fell from a height of about 20 metres. He suffered severe fractures to both legs, injuries to his spine and arm, numerous bruises and other minor injuries. He has already undergone six operations and will remain in hospital for up to eight weeks. Naturally, he also lost his kite. Pawel was insured. The insurance company covered part of the rescue costs, amounting to 10,000 EUR. The total cost of the rescue (mainly the helicopter flight) came to 17,000 EUR. Our colleague has to pay the difference of 7,000 EUR out of his own pocket.

* The donations collected will cover the costs of the rescue operation (€7,000). The remainder will be used for his rehabilitation following his hospital stay (approximately two months) and to adapt his flat for wheelchair use.
