Description
We are the Karama Collective Solidarity social promotion association and the Thawra Collective, two voluntary organisations committed to defending human rights, combating marginalisation and promoting social justice.
We are launching an urgent fundraising campaign for the most vulnerable families in the village of Umm al-Khair, located near Masafer Yatta, in the hills south of Hebron (West Bank). We want to support their resistance efforts by purchasing food, medicines and essential supplies for children.
The Palestinian village of Umm al-Khair lies next to the (illegal) Israeli settlement of Carmel, built just a few metres from local homes. Declared a ‘military zone’, the area is subject to daily demolition and eviction orders by the Israeli occupation forces, which threaten the very existence of the community.
For years, the population has endured extremely violent attacks: armed raids by settlers escorted by the army, the poisoning of water wells, the killing of livestock, and the destruction of energy sources and crops. All this severely impacts the village’s livelihood and economy. Education is also compromised: the routes to school are increasingly dangerous and often impassable.
The families of Umm al-Khair, mostly shepherds, can no longer graze their sheep, thus losing their main source of livelihood. They are often left without drinking water, electricity, or the means to cook or keep warm. Transport is blocked by settlers and the military, making it almost impossible to go to school or work.
This appeal stems from direct contact with the inhabitants of Umm al-Khair, thanks to the efforts of one of our volunteers, who was recently arrested and expelled from Israel after denouncing settler violence. Having witnessed the killing of Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen, a leading figure in the village, he relayed the community’s plea for help first-hand.
As activists, we can no longer say “we didn’t know”: for more than 76 years, the Palestinian people have lived under occupation, and today they are being targeted not only in Gaza but throughout the West Bank, facing assaults, forced displacement, attacks on civilians and blockades on humanitarian aid.
Donations will be used to purchase: food for families, medicines, children’s products and school bags.
Every euro will go directly to the villagers. You can follow updates on the distribution of aid on our Instagram profiles @Karama and @Thawra.
Every contribution, however small, is an act of resistance and solidarity. Together we can make a difference. Thank you to everyone who decides to support the families of Umm al-Khair.

Most families in Umm al-Khair are shepherds, but they can no longer graze their sheep, losing their main source of income. They often go without drinking water, electricity, or the ability to cook or heat their homes. Transport is blocked by settlers and soldiers, making it nearly impossible to attend school or work.
This fundraising appeal arose from direct contact with the people of Umm al-Khair, thanks to one of our volunteers, who was recently arrested and expelled from Israel after denouncing settler violence. He witnessed the killing of Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen, a key figure in the village, and personally brought back the community’s plea for help.
