In the "wolf pit" of society.

What happened?

- I study at the University of Applied Sciences in Finland. In August 2023, I made the decision to remain an absentee student so that I could do the nursing job I loved and gain experience. The job I had ended in early October. After that, I couldn't get a job in my locality or nearby.

I was told that I could get unemployment benefit for the situation. I searched and cleared through the bureaucratic jungle, doing everything the authorities said to me. We received income support, but it only paid for rent, eating and public transportation. Everything else had to be pruned.

In January 2024, I received a decision that I was not eligible for unemployment benefit because I was still considered a student even though I was absent. I was told that I should have been divorced or absent for over a year in order to receive unemployment benefit. The positions of the 4 different authorities were in conflict and there was no way to demand a correction for anything. We were left on empty and the going was over 4000 €.

What's the situation now?

- We live by "hand to mouth". We can just get through all the mandatory expenses, but the 3-month moneyless notch is still affecting our lives. I can get some work done in addition to studying (however, a maximum of €400, because extra subsidies are deducted), but it will take some time at the moment before our economy stabilizes.

I have always had hope of helping, and I have always helped the less fortunate, the sick, and the in need since I was a boy scout. I believe in karma: when you help others, you get help when you need it most.

That set goal is more than half of what I lost, but I'm happy if I get even $1. It shows that there are people who want to help and that is enough for me.
