"Octopuses for Premature Babies" is an initiative based in Poland, aimed at providing neonatal units with crocheted octopus toys. Research has shown that the tentacles of these mascots resemble the umbilical cord, and remind the babies of their time in the womb.

Additionally, premature babies often have a strong grasping reflex and would frequently pull on the tubes connected to life-sustaining equipment. 

Now, they play with the octopus tentacles instead of pulling on the tubes. Before placing the octopus in the incubator, the baby's mother keeps the toy close to her to absorb her scent and transfer beneficial bacteria to it. This way, we introduce a motherly presence into the incubators.

We have been operating since 2016 and collaborate with over 100 hospitals across Poland. The monthly demand for octopuses is approximately 1,500 pieces, with a production cost of around €2.50 per octopus.

Our foundation is headquartered in Poland, and our crocheted octopus toys have been sent not only to hospitals within Poland but also to Denmark, Kenya, and Ukraine. We are proud to have our foundation based in Poland and committed to extending our reach to provide comfort to premature infants worldwide.

The purpose of this fundraiser is to support our foundation and continue our statutory activities. 

The funds raised with your assistance will be allocated to:

The cotton needed to make the mascots and their stuffing.

Advertising costs (printing leaflets, business cards, octopus usage instructions).

Costs associated with delivering octopuses to hospitals and individual shipments.

Accounting expenses.

Overheads such as rent and utilities.

Promotional expenses.
