Description
Join us in making the 9th Arianna Anticoagulation Foundation Conference, to be held in Bologna on 2–3 April 2025, a reality.
The aim of the Conference, organised in collaboration with A.I.P.A. - Bologna APS (Italian Association of Anticoagulated Patients of Bologna), is to promote the correct use of anticoagulant and antithrombotic treatments, which currently affect an increasing number of people, in order to prevent or treat thrombotic events (such as stroke, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism).
The conference aims to facilitate dialogue between experts from various sectors and specialists in coagulation and haemostasis to optimise treatments, particularly where areas of uncertainty exist. However, the effectiveness of care requires not only the dissemination of specific knowledge and the commitment of healthcare professionals, but also the proper organisation of the National Health Service and a constant, constructive relationship with patients and their families.
To discuss these issues, we have invited representatives from institutions and patient associations, who will also be in attendance.
But we need your support! With a donation, you will help make this event a reality, giving many professionals the opportunity to exchange views and keep up to date on issues of great importance to health, and offering patient associations the chance to discuss the main challenges they face.
Every contribution counts! Donate now!
WHO ARE WE?
The Arianna Anticoagulation ETS Foundation is a non-profit organisation established by A.I.P.A. Bologna - APS (Italian Association of Anticoagulated Patients of Bologna) and Prof. Gualtiero Palareti (former Director of the Angiology and Coagulation Disorders Unit at the Sant’Orsola Malpighi Polyclinic in Bologna) with the aim of improving knowledge of anticoagulant and antithrombotic treatments and promoting their correct use.
The Foundation is actively engaged in research into the treatment and prevention of thrombosis and in disseminating research findings. It promotes and supports clinical research through the conduct of collaborative clinical trials, particularly in the field of thrombosis and its complications, as well as antithrombotic and anticoagulant treatments.
Furthermore, through the anticoagulazione.it portal, it informs and guides professionals, patients, their families and the general public through the complex landscape of thrombotic disease management and patient services, raising awareness about prevention.
For any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us via our social media channels (www.ariannafoundation.org, anticoagulazione.it, Facebook and LinkedIn).
On www.anticoagulazione.it you can find out what we have discussed in recent years:
Anticoagulated patients: fewer centres and more local care (which isn’t available)
Anticoagulated patients: how to improve quality of life and treatment safety
Active patient involvement at the Anticoagulation Conference
Studies by the Arianna Anticoagulation Foundation
The loneliness of the patient on anticoagulants
THE ARIANNA ANTICOAGULATION FOUNDATION CONFERENCE
The 9th Arianna Anticoagulation Foundation Conference will be held on 2 and 3 April 2025 at the Zanhotel Europa, Via Boldrini 11, Bologna. The aim of the conference is to highlight the grey areas regarding the appropriate use of anticoagulant and antithrombotic treatments in terms of efficacy and safety, encouraging discussion between experts from various sectors and specialists in coagulation and haemostasis. The conference also aims to highlight the main organisational and care-related issues within the National Health Service regarding the management of patients on anticoagulants, and to identify possible solutions.
Among the various sessions of the conference, the following will be of particular interest:
-the session “National Health Service (NHS) and independent clinical research”. Speakers will include Nino Cartabellotta (President of the GIMBE Foundation) and Nicola Magrini (Scientific Coordinator of the Emilia-Romagna Regional Medicines Commission, Director of the Research and Innovation Unit, Sant’Orsola Malpighi Polyclinic)
-the round table on “Anticoagulated patients in our country. Health and social issues”
-the round table on “What should the LEPs (essential levels of performance) and LEAs (essential levels of care) be for patients on anticoagulants?”
-the round table discussion bringing together neurologists and interventional neuroradiologists with experts in antithrombotic therapies
-the round table featuring cardiologists and experts in direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs), with a presentation and discussion of the results of the latest clinical trials
-the round table on liver cirrhosis and anticoagulation, featuring gastroenterologists, internists and coagulation experts with specific experience in this field.
Other topics of great interest and current relevance will be covered, including:
-the clinical significance of various complications in patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE) who continue or discontinue anticoagulation
-the management of bleeding complications during anticoagulant therapy
-an update on theuse of low-molecular-weight heparin in cases of recurrent miscarriage and assisted reproductive technology procedures
-how to encourage patient participation in clinical trials on anticoagulation and their involvement in the evaluation and dissemination of the results of such studies.
The conference will take place in a hybrid format, with the option to attend proceedings both in person and virtually. Furthermore, the conference is ECM-accredited for in-person participants.

HOW WILL WE USE YOUR CONTRIBUTION?
Unfortunately, the Arianna Anticoagulation Foundation’s resources are reaching their limit, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to secure funding for scientific research such as ours, which is non-profit. Without funds, our research will come to a halt, but thanks to your help, we will be able to hold the conference again this year, which is a vital opportunity to share the results of our studies, provide scientific updates and discuss patients’ needs.
By helping us reach our target of €14,300, you can make the conference possible. This contribution will help us cover the following costs:
-€2,600 for the cost of the conference venue for 2 days, to ensure a welcoming and well-equipped space
-€6,000 for two nights’ accommodation for the 50 speakers and moderators at the event
-€3,000 to cover the costs of live streaming for those attending the conference online
-€1,900 for video editing of the conference sessions, which will subsequently be uploaded to our website so that as many people as possible can benefit from them
-€800 for printing, paper and stationery costs
The conference will also be funded by other sources, but your contribution through crowdfunding represents a significant part of our budget and is essential to ensuring the event is accessible and of high quality.
WHY YOUR SUPPORT IS CRUCIAL
Supporting the Fondazione Arianna Anticoagulazione annual conference means:
-offering researchers the opportunity to discuss topics of real interest to patients and with an impact on daily clinical practice
-offering patient associations the opportunity to discuss issues with professionals and public health officials
-fostering dialogue between professionals from different specialities, patients and institutions
THE POWER OF YOUR CONTRIBUTION
Every donation, large or small, will help make the Arianna AnticoagulationFoundation Conference a reality and, in doing so, will contribute to scientific research and the advancement of knowledge on anticoagulant and antithrombotic treatments.
Contributing to research means participating in the development of new knowledge and therapeutic approaches that can have a significant impact on public health.
Thanks to your support, we will be able to:
-improve professionals’ ability to manage patients requiring anticoagulant therapy
-focus our research on patients’ real needs
It is not just a conference. It is a unique opportunity for dialogue between doctors from different specialisms who, nevertheless, care for the same patients, and for discussion on the real needs of independent clinical research.
Because our National Health Service’s resources are limited, but could be enough for everyone if used to their full potential! And this conference aims to help doctors, patients and carers understand how to do this and how to move forward.
