Sarah’s Street Cat Soup Kitchen provides a safe sanctuary to around 40 resident cats and provides meals, shelter and medical care to any number of street cats who need support in Sarah’s small rural village on the outskirts of Veliko Tarnovo - Bulgaria’s historic old capital city.

For 10 years, Sarah has self funded the Street Cat Soup Kitchen - at times feeding over 80 cats daily, as well as neutering over 150 cats and providing neutering and medical care to cats belonging to elderly neighbours who are unable to pay. Each month Sarah also subsidises the cost of cat food to a number of villagers who are unable to provide adequate food for their cats. All this with no volunteers, no patrons, no sponsors… just Sarah.

Bulgaria has no state operated shelters, no low cost veterinary clinics or free/reduced cost neutering or vaccination schemes for cats - only dogs have this privilege.

Sarah recently used the last of her personal savings to purchase the property neighbouring her own in order to create a fully enclosed and secure one acre garden sanctuary for the homeless and abandoned cats to live out their days in peace - free from the risk of horrific abuse that is endemic in Bulgaria.

To turn this vision of a safe haven into reality, Sarah needs help and support - not only with the cost of feeding the cats in her care, but also to enable her to fund the necessary repair work required to make the new sanctuary safe as there are several large old stone buildings on the land that are at the point of collapse.
