Hello!
We are Jose and Isa, and we are the caretakers of a cat colony in Portugal.
On 17/03/2024, we rescued a 1 year old cat from the street because she seemed to be in great suffering due to her size. Although she is a very skinny cat, she has a huge belly.
On 19/03/2024, we took her to a veterinary clinic - VetAlmada (near Lisbon, the capital) - after finding her gasping for breath and lying on her own feces.
The veterinary clinic referred her to the veterinary hospital - SOSVet - to carry out an urgent caesarean section for her 7 babies. As she is a kitten from a colony that hasn't been treated, she has yet to be sterilized and dewormed. The first estimate I was given for the operation was 630€ ($680.63). However, after preparing her for delivery, they noticed that not only was she severely anemic, but her mammary tissue was rotten, making it impossible to carry out the caesarean section.
As a result, she had to be hospitalized, increasing the budget to €880 ($950.72). But she started miscarrying. So on the 22nd march 2024, she had a blood transfusion (524,92€ / $567,24), increasing the budget to €1404.92 ($1517.83). But the budget went up again because she had to stay in the hospital for another 48 hours, And so we're currently left with a bill of 1704.92€ ($1841.94).
