Description

Hi, I'm a 37 year old father of a 1 year old baby boy and in my last hour of need I have to write here. Namely, I went to live in my grandmother's house when I was about 20, to keep an eye on her and to give my mother and father peace of mind that they wouldn't have to drive 15km to her house every time my grandmother called. So, in cooperation with my parents, we built a second floor, which of course required borrowing, because construction is so expensive. We got on well with my grandmother and I helped her with everything. We lived under the same roof for 14 years, her on the ground floor and me on the second floor until she died 4 years ago. After that I met my current partner and the mother of my child. My grandmother bequeathed this poorly maintained house to me and hoped I would renovate it. So I started to do it with my partner, who also has an anxiety disorder like me. The partner therefore went to work as God directed. Luckily for me, I don't have to deal with people much and I can go to work. So I, in my foolish head, wanted to start renovating the downstairs, even though the roof was obviously already through. I thought that when it was finished, I could move to the first floor with my partner and start putting money aside from the rent I would have given on the second floor to replace the roof. But it didn't come to that. Strange things started happening with the water, downstairs and upstairs. Pressure hoses were bursting, and the mixing valve was faulty, etc. Basically, the upstairs was badly water damaged, which had to be dealt with from the start. For this, again, debt had to be taken out. The bank wouldn't lend and there was no alternative but to take a quick loan. From one place and another. We got the damage repaired nicely and everything was nice and tidy, and there was no problem paying the debts. In 2023, we had the most darling baby boy and everything seemed to be going uphill. However, in early 2024 with the thaw, that dreaded roof started to fail. And with a vengeance, so that the whole upstairs floated again and as no one lived upstairs, I only discovered it when the water started to come downstairs. The roof had to be replaced quickly to stop the house becoming completely uninhabitable. Again, I couldn't get a loan from the bank, so I had to take out another loan at a nasty interest rate. At the same time, the foundation was insulated, as I hoped that the cold floors would be warm for the child, but I did not get the desired result, as the façade of the house is like a sieve, letting in wind and moisture from all sides. In addition, this 'sieve' has now also caused mould to grow downstairs, which we are trying to remove with constant heating and repellent. So I'm struggling with these loans and the amount is already so high that I'm paying my entire salary into it and I can't put it aside to renovate the façade. I also contacted a debt adviser, who advised me to file an insolvency petition with the court, so that I don't have to pay the crazy interest and sooner or later end up in the clutches of the bailiffs, who would sell the house. At the moment, I have already been to court once, and they gave me the hope that they could reduce the interest and spread my debt over a longer period. I came here as a last resort because all this mess has added to my mental problems and I feel helpless and pointless in front of my child and my wife.I would like to have the façade fixed so that there is no damp and no wind in the room and the child is not sickly and dizzy all the time as a result. Every penny is appreciated so that I can start from scratch. Thanks to all who bother to read. Thank you!
