Help us launch our children’s rights programmes for children, parents and professionals!

We are raising 1.5 million forints in the first phase to launch an educational programme on children’s rights and human rights that addresses children, parents and professionals working with children or involved in children’s cases.

We believe that children’s safety and the genuine realisation of their rights can only be strengthened if we do not merely teach children about their rights, but also ensure that the adults around them possess appropriate, practical knowledge of children’s rights.Our programmes are therefore structured around three interlinked target groups:

CHILDREN

We aim to provide them with interactive children’s rights and skills-building programmes tailored to their age group.

During the sessions, children can learn about their rights, recognise situations where their rights are being infringed, where they are at risk or being abused, and understand when and from whom they can seek help.

We combine knowledge of children’s rights with the development of practical skills: self-awareness, setting boundaries, self-assertion, empathy, self-control, assertive communication, conflict resolution, asking for help and cooperation.

Our aim is for children to be able to express their opinions, set their own boundaries, ask for help and play an active role in matters that affect them.

PARENTS AND FAMILIES

We aim to provide workshops and practical programmes on children’s rights, child safety, recognising situations of risk and abuse, prevention, and ways to seek help.

We provide parents with practical tools for bonding with their children, communicating in a way appropriate to their child’s age, setting and respecting boundaries, and for listening to and supporting their children in difficult or conflict-ridden situations.

PROFESSIONALS AND ORGANISATIONS

We aim to provide professional training on children’s rights and a child-centred approach to teachers, child protection and child welfare professionals, staff at guardianship authorities, and other professionals working with children.

Our key topics:

• the practical application of children’s rights,
• listening to children,
• communication appropriate to the child’s age and maturity,
• a trauma-informed approach,
• recognising abuse,
• the practical application of the best interests of the child,
• preventing secondary victimisation,
• respect for the child’s views, participation and human dignity.

We also wish to support schools, child protection and child welfare institutions, authorities and other organisations in developing child-centred practices that serve to ensure the child’s safety and the effective realisation of their rights.

Why is this necessary?

Knowledge of children’s rights alone is not enough.

It is of little use for a child to know what rights they have if their parent does not know how to protect them. And it is of little use if a parent is aware of their child’s rights if those involved in schools, child protection services, public authorities or the justice system lack adequate knowledge of children’s rights, or are unable to apply this knowledge in practice.

That is why we wish to engage with the entire system surrounding the child.

CHILD • PARENT • PROFESSIONAL

We do not wish to teach rights alone. We aim to provide the knowledge and practical tools that will enable these rights to be recognised, respected and exercised in everyday life.

Our initial aim is to raise 1,500,000 forints in start-up funding.

How will we use the funds raised?

Our primary aim is to use this sum to establish the Association and create the conditions necessary for it to begin operating. At the same time, we will prepare and launch children’s rights and skills development sessions, workshops for parents that are free of charge or have a low participation fee, as well as professional programmes. The funding will also enable us to provide the professional, organisational, communication and operational support required to implement these initiatives.

Our aim is to build a long-term programme system through which, over time , hundreds, and eventually even thousands, as well as parents and professionals working with children, can gain access to the knowledge and practical tools that serve to ensure children’s safety, uphold their rights and protect their human dignity.

This current funding is therefore needed to get the project off the ground – but its impact could extend far beyond that.

Hungary ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1991. According to Article 42 of the Convention, its principles and provisions must be widely publicised amongst both children and adults.

We would like to contribute to this through practical programmes.

Every donation brings us closer to making these programmes accessible to children, parents and professionals.

If the fundraising campaign raises more than the amount needed to get us started, we will use the remaining funds, once the Association has been established, to cover its running costs and to implement its programmes on children’s rights, education and skills development!
