What it is

EuroOS is an operating system written from zero in Rust (no_std), released under the EUPL-1.2. No Linux fork, no repackaged distribution, no US-owned codebase underneath. The kernel, the filesystem, the network stack and the desktop are all written for this project.

Today the codebase is over 63,000 lines and includes working implementations of:

• EuroFS, the filesystem
• EuroNet, the network stack
• EuroDesktop, the graphical desktop
• EuroGuard, the security layer
• EuroAgent, the local agent runtime
• EuroSuite (Writer, Calc, Impress), the office suite

Why it exists

Europe runs its hospitals, its municipalities, its schools and its critical infrastructure on operating systems it does not control and cannot audit. Every layer below the application is a dependency on a vendor outside European jurisdiction. At the same time, the CRA, NIS2 and GDPR put the legal responsibility for that software on European organisations.

EuroOS is built the other way around: European code, open source, auditable end to end, and designed from the start with CRA, NIS2 and GDPR requirements as architectural input instead of a compliance layer bolted on afterwards.

Where the money goes

This campaign funds the running cost of building the project in the open. A realistic monthly budget:

Why monthly instead of a one-off target

An operating system is not a project that finishes. It needs continuous building, testing on real hardware, and security work for as long as anyone runs it. Recurring funding is what keeps that possible without selling the project to a vendor or an investor who wants control over the direction.

What backers get

Everything produced stays under the EUPL-1.2 and stays public. Backers get the development updates, the sprint notes, and the ability to steer priorities through the issue tracker. There is no premium tier, no closed edition, and no plan to relicense.
