Ismail was our translator from Arabic to English during one of the worst moments of war, in Gaza, in 2009. We became friends and always kept in touch over the years. Right now, he desperately needs our help. He has been on the border with Egypt for more than 5 months and, having exhausted all other possibilities, the only chance he has at the moment of crossing the border with his family (with expired passports) is to pay around 5 thousand dollars per person to the Egyptian authorities. In other words, for him (56 years old), the wife (55 years old), the mother (71 years old), the minor son (13 years old), the 20 year old daughter and an 18 month old grandson, we need 30 thousand dollars.

It's a lot of money but, having witnessed so many atrocities around the world over the years, we have also learned that it is at these times that the generosity of some good people can work “miracles”. All together we can make a difference in these people's lives.

O Ismail foi nosso tradutor de árabe para inglês durante um dos piores momentos de guerra, em Gaza, em 2009. Tornámo-nos amigos e mantivemos sempre contacto ao longo dos anos. Neste momento, ele precisa desesperadamente da nossa ajuda. Está há mais de 5 meses na fronteira com o Egipto e, esgotadas todas as outras possibilidades, a única hipótese que ele tem neste momento de passar a fronteira com a família (com passaportes caducados) passa pelo pagamento de cerca de 5 mil dólares por pessoa às autoridades egípcias. Ou seja, para passar ele (56 anos), a mulher (55 anos), a mãe (71 anos), o filho menor (13 anos), a filha de 20 anos e um neto de 18 meses, são precisos pelo menos 30 mil dólares.

É muito dinheiro mas, tendo testemunhado tantas atrocidades pelo mundo ao longo dos anos, aprendemos também que é nestas alturas que a generosidade de algumas pessoas de bem podem fazer “milagres”. Todos juntos podemos fazer a diferença na vida destas pessoas.
