My daughter, Ewa, spent her holidays earning money for her studies and working as a waitress near Giżycko. One rainy day in August, while driving to work, she had a car accident. This is how our story begins and the fight for Ewa's life and health.

News about the accident

Three years have passed since those events, but when I think back to those moments, I still shake. The news about the accident hit our family like a bolt from the blue. Then thoughts come to mind - how is this possible and why did it happen to our daughter?

The ambulance arrived at the scene of the accident very quickly and Ewa found himself in the emergency room in Giżycko. So what if doctors gave her a 10% chance of survival?!

In hospitals

Doctors diagnosed my daughter with such serious injuries as multiple organ trauma, intracranial trauma, brain and lung contusion, brain swelling, broken nose, intracerebral haemorrhage, post-traumatic hydrocephalus. There was also damage to the central nervous system.

From Giżycko, Ewa was taken to a hospital in Ełk, then there was a hospital in Olsztyn, where she awoke from a coma, but for her sake doctors put her in a pharmacological coma. The next stage was to transfer her to the Wake Clinic for Adults, where she stayed for 3 months. Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, I was unable to be there with my daughter, which took a heavy toll on her condition.

How is it now?

The last 3 years of my life have been a constant struggle to improve my daughter's condition and her recovery. And wondering how to get funds for it. This is not our first collection for Ewa, unfortunately even large amounts of money run out quickly. Each rehabilitation stay in a private clinic costs approximately PLN 18,000. We also happened to be in a place where the stay cost PLN 27,000. So it's a lot of money.

It's getting better now, Ewa is very brave and fights every day. He undergoes rehabilitation for up to 4.5 hours a day, which is very hard work. I'm not only talking about physiotherapy, but also speech therapy and neurorehabilitation. Ewa does not communicate on her own, but she understands others, she is starting to say single words, grab things with her left hand, it is still poorly mobile, but she is currently exercising her hands to make them more efficient, training their mobility.

We feel happy when Ewa manages to raise her hand a little higher, or when two hands start to "cooperate" better. It's weird, isn't it? It used to be unthinkable for me, but now I see it as the miracle of life. Progress is slow but steady. Without rehabilitation it will not exist. The National Health Fund provides 80 hours of rehabilitation per year, which is a drop in the ocean of needs. Ewa needs both home rehabilitation and away rehabilitation stays.

I am asking for help for my daughter

Both my daughter and I are tough competitors and determined to keep fighting. But we won't be able to do it without your help. That's why I'm asking you, Good Man, for help. Ewunia is a young girl, her body is regenerating, she has her whole life ahead of her. Funds are needed for further medications, care products, treatment and, above all, rehabilitation.
