Help us to regain hope and a roof over our heads

My name is Joanna and I am writing these words at the most difficult time of our lives. The dream of having my own home has been with me all my life - a dream that was to become our safe haven. My husband and I saved every penny over the years, sacrificing a lot to achieve this goal. Eventually, we decided to sell our flat, believing that by doing so we would create a place that would be our home and a refuge for our family.

Unfortunately, we trusted the wrong person. The company that was supposed to carry out the construction turned out to be a fraud. First, we made an advance payment of PLN 40,000 "to hand", without any confirmation of the service. Then we made further transfers for materials, windows, trusses and the roof - a total of PLN 86,000, i.e. all our savings. With time, the lies, evasive answers and lack of documents confirming the expenses started. We tried to clarify the situation and the case went to court, but the prosecutor's office refused to open an investigation, arguing that the transfers were not sufficient evidence in the case.

Today we are fighting not only for the superstructure of the house, but also for every day of our lives. We are at the stage when even the ceiling is in danger of flooding - we are missing a dozen or so rebar wires and materials to complete the roof. Winter is approaching and we are standing on the brink without the means to secure what we have already achieved.

Our financial situation is dire. My husband's employment contract has not been renewed and I struggle with panic anxiety, which makes it difficult for me to function in society - leaving the house becomes a challenge. The daily struggles, the uncertainty of tomorrow and the constant fear for basic needs such as bread on the table make us feel helpless.

In these difficult moments, we receive tremendous help from our neighbours. Their support - both verbal and actual - is invaluable to us. Thanks to their help, we persevere despite adversity, but we will not be able to complete the construction and secure our house on our own.

That is why we are making an earnest plea to you: please support us not only financially. You can also help by donating building materials, essential white goods or other things that will enable us to get on with the construction. Every donation, even the smallest one, is a step towards fulfilling the dream of a safe place that we can call home.As of today, the case has once again gone to the prosecution with new evidence with the help of Ms Lawyer from Free Legal Aid . We hope that this time we will be able to win back what the money thief took.
