My name is Ryszard Kosche and I am 65 years old. For the last 18 years, I have lived and worked in the UK. I moved from Poland to the UK with my two daughters, who also had no mother. They went to school there and still live there today. They are now adults and have families of their own. In 2023, I decided to move to Cambodia. I met a very wonderful woman here. NaDea was a Khmer woman who had lived in Thailand for 20 years. There, she had a partner with whom she had a child, NomPoy. The child’s father left them, and she returned to Cambodia to her home town of Pursat. Due to difficult financial circumstances, the child stayed with her mother, whilst she went away in search of work. That’s how we met in January this year, and we’ve been together ever since. About two months ago, her mother—NomPoy’s grandmother—passed away, and I decided that the child should come to live with us. We’ve been together ever since. An incredible bond has formed between us. I have grown to love Nadije and her child very deeply. We shared some wonderful moments together until 2 November 2024. NaDea passed away. She had a serious internal illness and could not be saved. The child is 10 years old and has been left an orphan. I asked her if she wanted to stay with me or return to her extended family. She replied that she absolutely wanted to stay with me. I also spoke to her family, who accepted this. Now I need to sort out all the legal formalities so that I can become her legal guardian. Under the conditions here, this involves significant costs, so I am making a heartfelt appeal for financial support. Besides, I need to provide the child with decent living conditions, an English-speaking school, food, clothing and everything else a child of this age needs. The child is currently with me and I think that, despite this traumatic situation, she is happy here with me. I am gradually sorting out a reasonably good school for her and the necessary school supplies. I intend to use the funds raised to pay for lawyers so that I can become her legal guardian, as well as for clothes and other essentials.
