Kitten sterilisation/castration

When I was younger I was a dog person. Well, actually I loved all animals and in the chaos my family created in my life, animals were my save heaven.

Then I was 18 and I started living with my boyfriend in this little village called Preserje in Slovenia and under the window of our bedroom there was a mother cat having her babies. There was five of them. I looked them over the window and then one day, mother cat was run over by a car on the street nearby. Kittens were left by them self and I took them to the nearby shelter in Ljubljana. Two of them got their forever homes but three of them did not survived.

This story warmed my heart and when I was capable me and my boyfriend got our first cat. Nani, a male tabby cat with three legs. One back leg was, as they said in the shelter, cut off by people, trying to kill all three kittens in the litter but they were unsuccessful.

Nani was the last of three in the shelter and he was so full of life and kind energy that I took him home this same evening.

He changed my life for ever. He is the healer of my soul and after that I became a cat person. A bit after a year later, came Mimi. A grey russian blue look a like male stray cat. They called me from the shelter, calling for help, he was dying and needed feeding support.

After that I found what momas boy really means.

Both Nani and Mimi opened my heart to helping cats in need. I educated myself that cats in my village are mostly a produce of farm cats, villagers are ignorant to the sterilisation or castration. Not that they don't want to, they just don't want to pay for the procedure. In Slovenia, for that kind a procedure is about 40-70 €, depends on the vet clinic.

I always tried to help with my own money, to educate village people, help them to support the idea of not having so many cats around. But me alone, with limited funds is a battle I cannot win.

So I am asking for support of my idea, my challenge to sterilise/castrate as many cats I can in the village, make educational flyers and buy cages to catch the shy cats.

It would mean a dream come true to me, if my village would become a save heaven for stray cats, just as Nani and Mimi are to me.

One people cannot change the world, but I can change one cats world.

Thank you.
