Vor einigen Monaten haben uns viele Menschen dieselbe Frage gestellt:

„Wie können wir Janek helfen?“

Damals konnten wir darauf noch keine Antwort geben.

Es gab Hoffnung, aber noch keine Gewissheit. Es folgten Gespräche mit Spezialistinnen und Spezialisten, zahlreiche Untersuchungen und viele offene Fragen. Niemand konnte sagen, ob sich rechtzeitig eine Lösung finden würde, bevor Janeks Krankheit den nächsten Schritt bestimmt.

Wir wollten erst dann um Unterstützung bitten, als wir selbst genau wussten, wofür wir kämpfen.

Heute können wir diese Frage beantworten.

Heute gibt es eine reale Chance auf eine Nierentransplantation.

Nicht irgendwann.

Nicht vielleicht.

Janek

Janek ist zehn Jahre alt.

Er wurde mit dem Prune-Belly-Syndrom geboren – einer der seltensten angeborenen Fehlbildungen der Harnwege. Bereits vor seiner Geburt waren die ersten medizinischen Eingriffe notwendig.

Seitdem begleiten Operationen, Krankenhausaufenthalte und unzählige Untersuchungen sein Leben.

Für Janek war das nie etwas Außergewöhnliches.

Es war einfach seine Realität.

Heute befindet er sich im Endstadium einer chronischen Nierenerkrankung.

Und trotzdem bestimmt die Krankheit nicht, wer er ist.

Er geht zur Schule, verbringt Zeit mit seinen Freunden, interessiert sich für die Dinge, die Zehnjährige begeistern, und genießt jeden Tag, an dem er einfach Kind sein darf.

Wer Janek begegnet, würde kaum vermuten, wie schwer krank er tatsächlich ist.

Zehn Jahre für diesen Moment

In den vergangenen zehn Jahren wurde jede medizinische Entscheidung mit einem einzigen Ziel getroffen:

Janek so lange wie möglich ein Leben ohne Dialyse zu ermöglichen und die bestmöglichen Voraussetzungen für eine erfolgreiche Nierentransplantation zu schaffen.

Dieser Weg war nicht immer einfach.

Aber genau dieser Weg hat uns bis hierher geführt.

Bis heute benötigt Janek keine Dialyse.

Diese gewonnene Zeit wurde genutzt, um gemeinsam mit Spezialistinnen und Spezialisten im In- und Ausland nach den bestmöglichen Behandlungsmöglichkeiten zu suchen.

Heute stehen diese Möglichkeiten tatsächlich offen.

Die Chance

Zum ersten Mal seit Janeks Geburt gibt es nicht nur Hoffnung, sondern einen konkreten medizinischen Behandlungsweg.

Die derzeit größte Chance ist eine Nierentransplantation durch einen Lebendspender am Universitätsklinikum Innsbruck in Österreich.

Janeks Onkel aus Österreich möchte ihm eine Niere spenden. Die bisher durchgeführten Untersuchungen, einschließlich der immunologischen Verträglichkeitsprüfung, verliefen so positiv, dass das österreichische Transplantationszentrum grünes Licht für die weitere medizinische Abklärung von Spender und Empfänger gegeben hat.

Für unsere Familie bedeutet das etwas, worauf wir zehn Jahre lang gehofft haben.

Janek hat eine echte Chance auf eine Nierentransplantation.

Gleichzeitig prüft ein Transplantationszentrum in Deutschland, ob auch eine ABO-inkompatible Lebendspende durch Janeks Mutter möglich wäre.

Parallel dazu bleibt Janek weiterhin auf der Warteliste für eine Nierentransplantation von einem verstorbenen Spender.

Damit gibt es heute mehrere reale Behandlungsmöglichkeiten.

Und genau das macht diese Situation so besonders.

Diese Spendenaktion soll keine Hoffnung schaffen.

Die Hoffnung ist bereits da.

Warum wir Unterstützung brauchen

Die größte Herausforderung ist heute nicht mehr die Medizin.

Die größte Herausforderung ist die Finanzierung dieser Behandlung.

Viele Menschen stellen uns verständlicherweise dieselbe Frage:

Warum wird finanzielle Unterstützung benötigt, wenn ein geeigneter Spender gefunden wurde und ein Transplantationszentrum bereit ist, die Behandlung durchzuführen?

Obwohl das österreichische Transplantationszentrum nach eingehender Prüfung der bisherigen medizinischen Unterlagen und Untersuchungsergebnisse die Lebendnierentransplantation als den richtigen Behandlungsweg für Janek bewertet und grünes Licht für die weitere Qualifikation von Spender und Empfänger gegeben hat, wurde dieser Behandlungsweg vom polnischen Transplantationszentrum, das für die Qualifikation von Kindern zur Nierentransplantation zuständig ist, nicht befürwortet.

Die Einschätzung des österreichischen Transplantationszentrums stützt sich auf die vorliegende medizinische Stellungnahme sowie auf die Ergebnisse großer wissenschaftlicher Studien. Darin wird erläutert, dass eine frühzeitige Lebendnierentransplantation Janek größere Vorteile bietet als das Warten auf ein besser passendes Organ eines verstorbenen Spenders, das möglicherweise erst nach vielen Jahren oder gar nicht rechtzeitig verfügbar sein wird. Außerdem wird hervorgehoben, dass dadurch eine Dialyse vermieden werden kann und Lebendnierentransplantationen, die bereits vor Beginn einer Dialyse durchgeführt werden, häufiger langfristig funktionieren und den Patienten eine bessere Prognose bieten.

Da dieser Behandlungsweg vom zuständigen polnischen Transplantationszentrum nicht befürwortet wurde, besteht derzeit keine Möglichkeit, die geplante Behandlung in Innsbruck über das polnische Gesundheitssystem finanzieren zu lassen. Deshalb muss unsere Familie die Kosten der Behandlung selbst tragen.

Allein der vorläufige Kostenvoranschlag des Universitätsklinikums Innsbruck für die Behandlung des Empfängers beläuft sich auf 74.869 Euro.

Hinzu kommen zahlreiche weitere notwendige Ausgaben, unter anderem für Untersuchungen, Medikamente, Reisen, Unterkünfte, den Aufenthalt einer Begleitperson sowie die medizinische Nachsorge.

• Behandlung von Janek in einem ausländischen Transplantationszentrum (einschließlich der geplanten Behandlung am Universitätsklinikum Innsbruck auf Grundlage des vorläufigen Kostenvoranschlags) – 75.000 €
• Medizinische Untersuchungen und Eignungsprüfung von Spender und Empfänger, fachärztliche Konsultationen sowie notwendige Diagnostik – 10.000 €
• Reise-, Unterkunfts- und Aufenthaltskosten für Janek und seine Begleitperson während der Behandlung – 10.000 €
• Medikamente, Nachsorgeuntersuchungen und medizinische Betreuung nach der Transplantation – 15.000 €
• Reserve für unvorhergesehene Behandlungskosten, mögliche Komplikationen oder eine notwendige Fortsetzung der Behandlung in einem anderen Transplantationszentrum – 10.000 €

Gesamtziel der Spendenaktion: 120.000 €

Sollte die Behandlung aus Gründen, die außerhalb des Einflusses unserer Familie liegen, in einem anderen Transplantationszentrum als Innsbruck durchgeführt werden müssen, werden die gesammelten Spendengelder für Janeks Behandlung in diesem Zentrum sowie für alle damit verbundenen Kosten verwendet.

Sollte Janek letztlich in Polen eine Nierentransplantation von einem verstorbenen Spender erhalten, werden sämtliche Spendengelder vollständig für seine weitere Behandlung, die Nachsorge, notwendige Medikamente und Kontrolluntersuchungen verwendet.

Jede Spende wird ausschließlich für Janeks Behandlung und alle unmittelbar damit verbundenen Kosten verwendet.

In den vergangenen zehn Jahren haben wir gelernt, unseren Weg Schritt für Schritt zu gehen.

Heute können wir einen größeren Schritt machen als je zuvor.

A few months ago, many people asked us the same question:

"How can we help Janek?"

At that time, we couldn't answer.

There was hope, but no certainty. More consultations with specialists followed, along with numerous medical examinations and many unanswered questions. No one could say whether the right solution would be found before Janek's disease took another step forward.

We didn't want to ask for help until we knew exactly what we were fighting for.

Today, we can answer that question.

Today, there is a real chance for a kidney transplant.

Not someday.

Not maybe.

Now.

Janek

Janek is ten years old.

He was born with Prune Belly syndrome, one of the rarest congenital urinary tract disorders. Even before he was born, the first medical procedures were already necessary.

Since then, his life has been filled with surgeries, hospital stays, and countless medical examinations.

For Janek, this has never been anything unusual.

It has simply been his reality.

Today, he is living with end-stage chronic kidney disease.

Yet his illness does not define who he is.

He goes to school, spends time with his friends, enjoys the things every ten-year-old enjoys, and cherishes every day he can simply be a child.

Anyone who meets him would hardly believe how seriously ill he really is.

Ten Years Leading to This Moment

For the past ten years, every medical decision has been made with one goal in mind:

to help Janek live as long as possible without dialysis and to create the best possible conditions for a successful kidney transplant.

This journey has not always been easy.

But it has brought us to where we are today.

Even now, Janek still does not require dialysis.

This precious time has been used to search, together with specialists in Poland and abroad, for the best possible treatment options.

Today, those options finally exist.

The Chance

For the first time since Janek was born, there is not only hope, but also a clear medical path forward.

The most promising option is a living donor kidney transplant at the University Hospital in Innsbruck, Austria.

Janek's uncle, who lives in Austria, wants to donate one of his kidneys to him. The medical examinations completed so far, including immunological compatibility testing, have produced encouraging results, and the Austrian transplant center has given the green light to proceed with the next stage of the donor's and recipient's medical evaluation.

For our family, this means something we have been hoping for over the past ten years.

Janek now has a real chance to receive a kidney transplant.

At the same time, a transplant center in Germany is evaluating the possibility of an ABO-incompatible living donor transplant with Janek's mother.

Meanwhile, Janek remains on the national waiting list for a kidney from a deceased donor.

Today, there are several real treatment options.

And that is what makes this moment so extraordinary.

This fundraiser is not about searching for hope.

Hope already exists.

Why We Need Your Support

Today, the greatest challenge is no longer the medical possibilities.

The greatest challenge is funding the treatment.

Many people understandably ask us the same question:

Why is financial support needed if a suitable donor has already been found and a transplant center is willing to perform the treatment?

Although the Austrian transplant center, after carefully reviewing Janek's medical records and test results, concluded that a living donor kidney transplant is the most appropriate treatment option for him and gave the green light to continue the donor's and recipient's medical evaluation, this treatment approach was not supported by the Polish transplant center responsible for qualifying children for kidney transplantation.

The Austrian transplant center's assessment is based on a detailed medical opinion as well as the results of large scientific studies. According to this opinion, an early living donor kidney transplant offers Janek greater benefits than waiting for a better-matched kidney from a deceased donor — a kidney that may become available only after many years or may not become available in time. It also emphasizes that this approach gives Janek the opportunity to avoid dialysis and that living donor transplants performed before dialysis begins are more likely to function longer and provide patients with better long-term outcomes.

Because this treatment approach was not supported by the Polish transplant center, there is currently no possibility of financing the planned treatment in Innsbruck through the Polish public healthcare system. As a result, our family must cover the costs of treatment ourselves.

The preliminary cost estimate issued by the University Hospital in Innsbruck for the recipient's treatment alone amounts to €74,869.

In addition, there are many other essential expenses, including medical examinations, medications, travel, accommodation, the stay of a parent or caregiver, and long-term follow-up care.

• Janek's treatment at an international transplant center (including the planned treatment at the University Hospital in Innsbruck based on the preliminary cost estimate) – €75,000
• Medical evaluation of the donor and recipient, specialist consultations, and necessary diagnostic tests – €10,000
• Travel, accommodation, and living expenses for Janek and his accompanying parent during treatment – €10,000
• Medications, follow-up examinations, and post-transplant medical care – €15,000
• Reserve for unforeseen medical expenses, possible complications, or the need to continue treatment at another transplant center – €10,000

Fundraising goal: €120,000

If, for reasons beyond our family's control, Janek's treatment has to be carried out at a transplant center other than Innsbruck, all funds raised will be used to cover the cost of his treatment there, together with all related medical and travel expenses.

If Janek ultimately receives a kidney transplant in Poland from a deceased donor, all donated funds will be used exclusively for his continued treatment, post-transplant care, medications, and the necessary follow-up examinations.

Every donation will be used exclusively for Janek's treatment and all expenses directly related to it.

Janek

Janek ha dieci anni.

È nato con la sindrome di Prune Belly, una delle più rare malformazioni congenite delle vie urinarie. Già prima della nascita sono stati necessari i primi interventi medici.

Da allora la sua vita è stata accompagnata da interventi chirurgici, ricoveri ospedalieri e innumerevoli esami.

Per Janek tutto questo non è mai stato qualcosa di straordinario.

È semplicemente la sua realtà.

Oggi si trova nella fase terminale della malattia renale cronica.

Eppure la malattia non definisce chi è.

Va a scuola, trascorre il tempo con i suoi amici, ama tutto ciò che appassiona un bambino di dieci anni e si gode ogni giorno in cui può semplicemente essere un bambino.

Chiunque lo incontri difficilmente immaginerebbe quanto sia gravemente malato.

Dieci anni per arrivare a questo momento

Negli ultimi dieci anni ogni decisione medica è stata presa con un unico obiettivo:

permettere a Janek di vivere il più a lungo possibile senza dialisi e creare le migliori condizioni possibili per un trapianto di rene di successo.

Non è stato un percorso facile.

Ma è proprio questo percorso che ci ha portati fino a qui.

Ancora oggi Janek non ha bisogno della dialisi.

Questo tempo prezioso è stato utilizzato per cercare, insieme a specialisti in Polonia e all'estero, le migliori possibilità di cura.

Oggi queste possibilità esistono davvero.

La possibilità

Per la prima volta dalla nascita di Janek non esiste soltanto la speranza, ma anche un percorso terapeutico concreto.

L'opzione oggi più promettente è un trapianto di rene da donatore vivente presso l'Ospedale Universitario di Innsbruck, in Austria.

Lo zio di Janek, che vive in Austria, desidera donargli uno dei suoi reni. Gli esami eseguiti finora, compresi quelli di compatibilità immunologica, hanno dato risultati così incoraggianti che il centro trapianti austriaco ha dato il via libera per proseguire con la successiva fase di valutazione medica del donatore e del ricevente.

Per la nostra famiglia questo rappresenta qualcosa che abbiamo aspettato per dieci anni.

Janek ha finalmente una reale possibilità di ricevere un trapianto di rene.

Allo stesso tempo, un centro trapianti in Germania sta valutando la possibilità di effettuare un trapianto da donatore vivente incompatibile per gruppo sanguigno (ABO) con la mamma di Janek.

Parallelamente, Janek rimane iscritto alla lista d'attesa nazionale per un trapianto di rene da donatore deceduto.

Oggi esistono quindi diverse concrete possibilità di cura.

Ed è proprio questo a rendere questa situazione così speciale.

Questa raccolta fondi non nasce per creare una speranza.

La speranza esiste già.

Perché abbiamo bisogno del vostro aiuto

Oggi la sfida più grande non riguarda più le possibilità offerte dalla medicina.

La vera sfida è riuscire a finanziare questo percorso di cura.

Molte persone ci pongono, comprensibilmente, la stessa domanda:

Perché è necessario raccogliere fondi se è già stato trovato un donatore compatibile e un centro trapianti è disposto a eseguire il trapianto?

Sebbene il centro trapianti austriaco, dopo aver attentamente valutato tutta la documentazione clinica e gli esami eseguiti finora, abbia ritenuto il trapianto da donatore vivente il percorso terapeutico più adatto per Janek e abbia autorizzato il proseguimento della valutazione del donatore e del ricevente, questo approccio terapeutico non è stato sostenuto dal centro trapianti polacco responsabile della qualificazione dei bambini al trapianto di rene.

La posizione del centro trapianti austriaco si basa su una dettagliata valutazione medica e sui risultati di importanti studi scientifici internazionali. Secondo tali dati, un trapianto da donatore vivente eseguito precocemente offre a Janek maggiori benefici rispetto all'attesa di un organo meglio compatibile proveniente da un donatore deceduto, che potrebbe diventare disponibile solo dopo molti anni oppure non arrivare in tempo. Viene inoltre evidenziato che questa strategia permette di evitare la dialisi e che i trapianti da donatore vivente eseguiti prima dell'inizio della dialisi hanno maggiori probabilità di funzionare più a lungo e di garantire una prognosi migliore.

Poiché questo percorso terapeutico non è stato sostenuto dal centro trapianti polacco competente, al momento non è possibile ottenere il finanziamento dell'intervento previsto a Innsbruck attraverso il sistema sanitario pubblico polacco. Per questo motivo la nostra famiglia è costretta a sostenere personalmente tutti i costi del trattamento.

Il preventivo preliminare rilasciato dall'Ospedale Universitario di Innsbruck per il solo trattamento del ricevente ammonta a 74.869 euro.

A questa cifra si aggiungono molte altre spese indispensabili: esami medici, farmaci, viaggi, alloggi, il soggiorno di un genitore o accompagnatore e tutte le cure necessarie dopo il trapianto.

• Cure di Janek presso un centro trapianti all'estero (compreso il trattamento programmato presso l'Ospedale Universitario di Innsbruck sulla base del preventivo preliminare) – 75.000 €
• Valutazione medica del donatore e del ricevente, consulenze specialistiche ed esami diagnostici necessari – 10.000 €
• Spese di viaggio, alloggio e soggiorno per Janek e il genitore che lo accompagnerà durante il trattamento – 10.000 €
• Farmaci, controlli medici e assistenza dopo il trapianto – 15.000 €
• Fondo di riserva per spese mediche impreviste, eventuali complicanze o la necessità di proseguire il trattamento presso un altro centro trapianti – 10.000 €

Obiettivo della raccolta fondi: 120.000 €

Se, per motivi indipendenti dalla volontà della nostra famiglia, il trattamento dovrà essere effettuato in un centro trapianti diverso da Innsbruck, tutti i fondi raccolti saranno destinati a coprire le cure di Janek presso quel centro e tutte le spese direttamente collegate al trattamento.

Se invece Janek riceverà un trapianto di rene in Polonia da un donatore deceduto, tutti i fondi raccolti saranno utilizzati esclusivamente per le cure successive, l'assistenza dopo il trapianto, i farmaci necessari e i controlli medici.

Ogni donazione sarà destinata esclusivamente alle cure di Janek e a tutte le spese direttamente collegate al suo trattamento.

Perché ogni aiuto è importante

Negli ultimi dieci anni abbiamo imparato ad affrontare ogni passo uno alla volta.

Oggi possiamo finalmente compiere il passo più importante.

Per la prima volta esiste una reale possibilità di un trapianto di rene.

Kilka miesięcy temu wiele osób zadawało nam to samo pytanie:

„Jak możemy pomóc Jankowi?”

Wtedy nie potrafiliśmy jeszcze na nie odpowiedzieć.

Była nadzieja, ale nie było pewności. Odbywały się kolejne konsultacje ze specjalistami, liczne badania i pojawiało się wiele pytań. Nikt nie mógł powiedzieć, czy uda się znaleźć odpowiednie rozwiązanie, zanim choroba Janka zrobi kolejny krok.

Nie chcieliśmy prosić o pomoc, dopóki sami nie wiedzieliśmy, o co walczymy.

Dziś możemy odpowiedzieć na to pytanie.

Janek ma dziesięć lat.

Urodził się z zespołem Prune Belly – jedną z najrzadszych wrodzonych wad układu moczowego. Już przed jego narodzinami konieczne były pierwsze interwencje medyczne.

Od tamtej pory jego życie to operacje, pobyty w szpitalu i niezliczone badania.

Dla Janka nigdy nie było to nic niezwykłego.

To po prostu jego codzienność.

Dziś znajduje się w schyłkowym stadium przewlekłej choroby nerek.

A mimo to choroba nie definiuje tego, kim jest.

Chodzi do szkoły, spędza czas z przyjaciółmi, interesuje się tym, co fascynuje każdego dziesięciolatka, i cieszy się każdym dniem, w którym może po prostu być dzieckiem.

Każdy, kto go spotyka, z trudem uwierzyłby, jak poważnie jest chory.

Dziesięć lat przygotowań do tej chwili

Przez ostatnich dziesięć lat każda decyzja medyczna była podejmowana z jednym celem:

umożliwić Jankowi jak najdłuższe funkcjonowanie bez dializ i stworzyć jak najlepsze warunki do udanego przeszczepu.

Ta droga nie zawsze była łatwa.

Ale to właśnie ona doprowadziła nas do tego miejsca.

Do dziś Janek nie wymaga dializ.

Ten czas został wykorzystany na wspólne poszukiwanie najlepszych możliwości leczenia wraz ze specjalistami w Polsce i za granicą.

Dziś te możliwości naprawdę istnieją.

Szansa

Po raz pierwszy od urodzenia Janka istnieje nie tylko nadzieja, ale również konkretna medyczna droga leczenia.
