Description
🚨Secure housing and care for Levi during his year of surgery / Ensuring 1 year of stable housing and medical care for Levi
As a single mother, I care for my 13-year-old son, Levi, 24 hours a day without any outside help. On the third day after his birth, Levi suffered a severe bilateral cerebral haemorrhage and oxygen deprivation. As a result, he lives with global somatomental retardation, epilepsy and severe, whole-body physical disability (spastic tetraparesis). Levi cannot sit, stand or speak unaided; his arms and legs are in fixed contracture (stiffness), and his vision is minimal. He requires full-time care.
What is our actual medical situation now?
Due to constant, painful muscle spasms, Levi’s body has developed an extremely severe110-degree spinal deformity (scoliosis), which is already pressing on his internal organs. He needs immediate spinal surgery, but surgeons are currently unwilling to perform the operation due to the enormous risks involved. Levi’s left kidney is severely dilated (stage IV hydronephrosis), urine flow is obstructed, and his kidney function has already dropped to 30%. As a result, we are facing urological surgery. As oral muscle relaxants have failed, we have now startedGabapentin therapyon the advice of a neurologist to manage the unbearable positioning pain, and we are urgently seeking clinical Botox treatment.
Why do we have to live in Budapest when we have a house in Békéscsaba?
Many people ask why we are saving for a home. We have our own house in Békéscsaba, butit isphysically and medically impossible to provide for Levi there. All his treating doctors – the spinal surgeon, the urologist-nephrologist team, his epileptologist – as well as the essential rehabilitation centres (Sher, Fellegvár) tie us exclusively to Budapest. With a child in an unstable condition who requires 24-hour care, commuting hundreds of kilometres a week would put his life at risk.
Why are we asking for support?
Our previous accommodation in Budapest has been terminated. We managed, with great difficulty, to raise the deposit required to move in from our own resources: we have found a new flat in Pest where Levi can fit in with his special bed and standing frame.
The flat’s fixed rent is180,000 HUF/month + service charges + utilities.
With Levi requiring constant supervision, working is completely out of the question for me. State support barely covers the cost of the special, lactose-free clinical formulae, medicines (Tegretol, Frisium, Ludea, Domperidone, Gabapentin) and ongoing medical consultations.
This fundraising campaignis about ensuring a dignified and safe life for Levi over the next year. I am reaching out to you so that we can cover the monthly costs of our flat in Budapest and his day-to-day care during the difficult operations and hospital treatments that lie ahead. Whatever amount of support is raisedwill go directly to Levi: it will fund his safe care base and proximity to clinics, which will save his life.
Thank you for your generous, kind-hearted support and for sharing this message.
[ENGLISH VERSION FOR INTERNATIONAL DONORS]
As a single mother with no external support, I provide 24/7 medical care for my 13-year-old son, Levi. On his third day of life, Levi suffered a severe bilateral brain haemorrhage and hypoxia. As a result, he lives with severe global somatomental retardation, epilepsy, and severe spastic tetraparesis affecting his entire body. Levi cannot sit, stand, or speak; his limbs are in fixed contractures, and his vision is minimal. He depends entirely on me for survival.
What is our current medical situation?
Due to chronic, painful muscle spasticity, Levi’s spine has developed a rigid110° curvature (scoliosis)that threatens his internal organs. He needs urgent spinal reconstruction, but surgeons cannot operate due to extreme perioperative risks. Levi’s left kidney is severely dilated (Grade IV hydronephrosis) with an obstructed outflow, and its function has dropped to 30%. Therefore, we are facing urgent urological surgery first. As oral muscle relaxants have failed, we have just startedGabapentintherapy under neurological supervision and are urgently seeking clinical Botulinum toxin (Botox) treatment to manage his unbearable positioning pain.
Why must we live in Budapest if we own a house in Békéscsaba?
Many ask why we are fundraising for housing. We own a house in Békéscsaba, butit is medically impossible to care for Levi there. All of his treating specialists (spine surgeon, urology and nephrology team, epileptologist) and his essential rehabilitation centres (Sher, Fellegvár) are located exclusively in Budapest. Travelling hundreds of kilometres every week with a child in his fragile condition would be life-threatening.
Why we need your kind support:
Our previous flat in Budapest is no longer available. We managed to cover the deposit from our own funds and have found a new flat in Budapest where Levi can fit with his specialised bed and standing frame.
The fixed rent for the flat is180,000 HUF (approx. €460) per month plus service charges and utilities.
Due to Levi’s round-the-clock medical needs, it is entirely impossible for me to work. Our basic state allowance barely covers his specialised clinical nutrition, medications (Tegretol, Frisium, Ludea, Domperidone, Gabapentin), and ongoing medical consultations.
This campaign aims to secureone year of dignified, stable housing and care for Levi. We need to ensure that our housing and daily expenses are covered during this critical year of major surgeries and hospitalisations. Every single penny raised heregoes directly towards Levi’s well-being: it funds his medical sanctuary and keeps him close to the emergency care that saves his life.
Thank you for your generous, kind support and for sharing our journey.
