Description
A friend told me, "You’re not being difficult. You’re being loving." It’s true that some people find me persistent. But I never give up—because this is about a person I love, and I will do everything for him.
Sebastijan has been my partner for nine years. We live together in a rented apartment, sharing life and caring for each other. On April 23rd, he suffered a severe heart attack in Berlin. Two days later, on April 25th, I arrived to be with him—and since then, I have been by his side every day.
Sebastijan is in a wakeful coma but emotionally responsive. I know he hears and understands. When I spoke to him about my granddaughter, he started crying—a moment I captured in a photo. I also have a video where, on my command, he moves his hand. When I asked if he would give me a kiss, he puckered his lips.
Unfortunately, I don’t have everything recorded, but his responses were clear and repeatable.
It’s hard to describe how much he wants to live—and to be with us.
This proves that he feels, understands, and responds in his own way. Every person, especially in such a state, deserves dignified and attentive care—every day, not only when someone who loves them is present.
I had to leave for Slovenia for three weeks to handle a move and personal matters, which broke my heart.
Upon my return on July 12th, I was shocked. His joints had stiffened, fingers and wrists barely move, and his ankles are contracted. Everything we had achieved together was gone. In this clinic in Bernau near Berlin, they apparently do not engage with him unless a close relative is there daily. This is inhumane. Everyone deserves respect, care, and closeness. Everyone.
Because of him, I am here—I will stay with him until the transfer, and afterwards also in Austria.
Sebastijan is a Slovenian citizen, insured in Austria, and has residence and employment there. I am in contact with a rehabilitation clinic in Vorarlberg and have arranged his admission; we are only waiting for a free bed, but it’s not expected until the end of July, and that is not guaranteed. I am his official guardian and partner. I handle all paperwork, translations, documents, certifications, and communication with doctors by myself. I do not speak German and have help with translations. I am on disability pension with a monthly income of 340 euros. The car I use to travel 52 km twice daily to see him is barely working—I hope it’s only a broken sensor as the workshop says. Yesterday the gearbox was acting up.
I write all this not to seek pity but to seek justice. If anyone can help, even with contributions towards costs, I will be deeply grateful. We are preparing a fundraising page. I have the photo where Sebastijan is crying and the video where he moves his hand on my voice. Everything I do is because I believe a person has the right to dignified recovery. To humane care.
