Description

PT-Agricultural project in Portugal

This is a sustainable and multifaceted agricultural project for the diversified production of vegetables, table grapes, dried fruits, cheeses and jams (among others).

The venture is located in central Portugal (GPS: 39.90528, -8.72276), 20 km from the coast, with good road access: two motorways nearby, 45 km from the port of Figueira da Foz, 160 km from Lisbon airport and 170 km from Porto airport.

Brief description of the project:

Acquisition (or long-term lease) of forest land on the banks of a river, with the aim of achieving an area of +20 ha, adapted to modern, mechanised and innovative agriculture using the best available technologies, automated irrigation control and electricity generation using solar panels, remote monitoring, etc.

The implementation area, which had been agricultural land for 50 years, was gradually transformed into forest land due to the abandonment of traditional, often subsistence farming, which was unprofitable due to its fragmentation and small size, cultivated at the time without mechanised means, but also due to emigration in the 1960s and 1980s and the advanced age of the populations that remained. these lands were abandoned for agriculture and transformed into forest.

Project objective:

The objective is to achieve a total area of more than 20 ha along the river, with the creation of a weir on the river, which will allow the supply and control of water retention lakes within the perimeter during the winter to provide irrigation for crops during the summer period, possibly with the support of a borehole. The flat land on the banks of the river will be used for vegetable production, while the hilly land will be used for table grape production and other crops.

Algae-based fertilisation is planned (in agreement with fishermen from coastal areas located 20 km away) for the harvesting and supply of algae (which will provide them with additional income during the winter), mixed with sawdust to provide natural fertilisation (recognised effectiveness).

On the other hand, the plan is to create a structure that is as autonomous as possible in the most diverse areas related to the activity, with a germination pavilion, a selection and packaging pavilion, a fruit dehydration and packaging pavilion, a cold storage pavilion, creating own brands for the national market, also focusing on exports, with quality products and a strong focus on sustainability and the environment.

Strengths:

Direct relationship with most landowners and local authorities. The project will have a significant social impact on local employment (it is planned to create a residential area for workers, including a nursery for their children, thus contributing to worker retention).

The project will also contribute to the control and reduction of fires, which in recent years have affected the area (currently the area is mostly forest, with no economic return for its owners, which is why these lands have been abandoned in recent decades by their current owners), transforming what is currently forest into agricultural land.

Finally, the raising of sheep and goats will contribute to the cleaning of the land after each production and of the adjacent land, providing the necessary raw material (milk) to the cheese factory. A mobile system of beehives will be installed for the natural pollination of vegetables and the production of honey, which will be marketed in all its forms.

Investment:

Funds raised will be converted, when exceeding €10,000 per donor, and if the interested parties so agree, into shares of the same amount in the company to be formed.

When 50% of the requested amount is reached, the project will be presented to the local authorities to obtain a preliminary feasibility agreement and negotiations for the acquisition of the land will begin.

Note:

The project will be launched after prior approval by the City Council. In case of refusal, the funds raised will be returned to the donors.

We are deeply grateful to all donors who believed in this project with their contributions and made this dream a reality.

IN-Agricultural project in Portugal

This is a sustainable and multifaceted agricultural project for the diversified production of vegetables, table grapes, dried fruits, cheeses and jams (among others).

The development is located in the central region of Portugal (GPS: 39.90528, -8.72276), 20 km from the coast, with good road access: two motorways nearby, 45 km from the port of Figueira da Foz, 160 km from Lisbon airport and 170 km from Porto airport.

Brief description of the project:

The area of implementation, agricultural land 50 years ago, was gradually transformed into forest land due to the abandonment of traditional agriculture, often subsistence, which was unprofitable due to its fragmentation and small size, cultivated at the time without mechanised means, but also with the emigration in the 1960s/1980s of the last century, and with the advanced age of the populations that remained, these lands were abandoned to agriculture and transformed into forest.

Project objective:

The objective is to reach a total area of more than 20 hectares along the river, with the creation of a dam in the river, which will allow the supply and control of water retention lakes within the perimeter during the winter to provide crop irrigation during the summer period, possibly with the support of a catchment hole. The flat lands on the banks of the river will be used for the production of vegetables, while the relief lands will be used for the production of table grapes and others.

Algae-based fertilisation is planned (in agreement with fishermen in coastal areas located 20 km away) for the harvesting and supply of algae (which will provide them with additional income during the winter), mixed with sawdust to provide natural fertilisation (recognised effectiveness).

On the other hand, it is planned to create a structure that is as autonomous as possible in the most diverse areas linked to the activity, with a germination pavilion, a selection and packaging pavilion, a fruit dehydration and packaging pavilion, a cold storage pavilion, creating its own brands for the national market, also investing in exports, with quality products and with a strong focus on sustainability and the environment.

Strengths:

Direct relationship with most owners and local authorities. The project will have a significant social impact on local employment (expected to create a residential area for workers, including a daycare centre for their children, thus contributing to worker retention).

The project will also contribute to the control and reduction of fires, which in past years affected the area (currently the area is mostly forest, with no economic return for its owners, which is why these lands have been abandoned in recent decades by their current owners), transforming what is currently forest into agricultural land.

Investment:

The funds raised will be converted, when greater than £10,000/donor, and if interested parties so wish, into shares of the same value in the company to be incorporated.

When 50% of the requested amount is reached, the project will be presented to local authorities to obtain a preliminary feasibility agreement and negotiations will begin to acquire the land.

Note:

The project will be launched after prior approval by the City Council. In case of refusal, the amounts collected will be refunded to the donors.

I am grateful from the bottom of my heart to all the donors, who, with their contributions, believed in this project and made this dream a reality.
