We are SubsoloFM - a YouTube channel based in Portugal dedicated to showcasing underground electronic sounds. Through our passion for music we aim to raise money for volunteer fire fighters in Portugal, known as the Bombeiros

Every summer in Portugal an insane amount of terrain is erased by wild fires. 2025 was one of the worst years on record with over 254,000 hectares destroyed and 118,000 hectares of forest (3.7% of the total forst area in Portugal) burnt to a crisp.*

There are a multitude of reasons these fires occur and for those who live in rural Portugal, it's a fact of life. We personally know people who have lost the place they call home, more than once.

Like many nations with a low population density the fire service outside of Portuguese cities is mostly voluntary. Firefighters are everyday folk, office workers, labourers, factory workers, farmers. They are paid only a small daily fee to put their lives on the line to protect and save the lives and livlihoods of others. Imagine stepping out of your every day-to-day life to face 40 foot high flames about to engulf a house and hot enough to burn your face off, even with protective gear!

It is common for fires to be attended by over 400 Bombeiros and the biggest fires, over 1000. During the peak of fire season in 2025,114 were injured in the line of duty.**

In 2024 three Bombeiros gave their lives battling the flames only a few hundered meters from the SubsoloFM studio.***

Portugal needs to recruit more volunteer firefighters, with better equipment and better training. Government funding is never enough. That is why SubsoloFM is aiming to raise money for these heroes!

Our long term goal is to raise €1,000 but our short-term plan is that every time we get another €100 euros, we will donate it to a different fire station or firefighter related organisation here in Portugal.

We will create a video of the withdrawl of funds and our donation being made, and post it on YT and Instagram (follow @subsolofm ) so you can see where your money is going.
