Hello everyone, I hope you’re all well! First of all, I’d like to explain a little about why I’m here

My name is André, I’m 23 years old and I have an illness, something that took me a while to realise. The illness in question is pathological gambling; I’m addicted to online gaming. I’ve always worked, but I thought that gaming was the solution to taking my life to the next level – something I unfortunately learnt the hard way. At first, I treated it as a casual pastime, but it ended up becoming more and more serious and taking over my thoughts all day long. I spent everything I had—and even what I didn’t have—trying to turn the situation around, but it only got worse. I am currently in recovery and abstinence. Gambling almost ruined my life; fortunately, my mum stopped me from taking my own life.

These days I attend online sessions of the ‘RENASCER’ group of GA (Gamblers Anonymous). I’ve looked for a different job; I’m struggling to make ends meet with what I have, but the banks are breathing down my neck over all the debts and at the moment I can’t cope with them.

That is the main reason I am here; any help to enable me to start my life afresh would be most welcome.
