Description
The story of 211 foreign soldiers – let them not be forgotten!
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemetery is located in Solymár, just 15 km from Budapest, Hungary.
Opened in 1947, the cemetery is the final resting place of 128 British, 6 Canadian, 13 Australian, 6 New Zealand, 20 South African, 37 Polish and 1 French soldier.
With one exception, all of them lost their lives in aerial combat over Hungary during the Second World War.
The Real History Nonprofit Zrt. has set the goal of researching the lives of these soldiers and the circumstances of their deaths, and publishing this information on a publicly accessible, searchable website.
The cemetery’s Facebook page is currently available at:

Why are we doing this?
Under our very first Facebook post, several descendants of fallen aircrew members reached out to us in the comments. Valuable information began arriving from all over the world.
Our Polish posts raised an important question:
how and why are these Polish soldiers buried in Hungary?
On ANZAC Day, April 25, 2026, it became clear that many people were unaware that Australian and New Zealand soldiers had taken part in air operations over Hungary.
These moments led us to make a decision: to create this website.
Our goal is to build a comprehensive database containing all available information about each soldier buried here. Over time, we will continuously expand this knowledge, research individual life stories, and identify crash sites where possible.
We aim to provide reliable and meaningful information to descendants, researchers and visitors — even those living thousands of kilometres away.
By doing so, we contribute to preserving the memory of these soldiers and provide a verified historical resource for future generations.
Real History Nonprofit Zrt. is a non-profit organization, and no profit is generated from this project.
If donations exceed the required amount, the additional funds will be used for further research, identifying original crash locations, and placing flags and wreaths at the graves.
