Hello

 My name isAnastasios Rodopoulosand I am a writer and self-publisher of the books I create. My love of books constantly leads me down new paths of writing and completion. 

From a very young age, I felt the need to record my thoughts on white paper as the thoughts in my mind multiplied and raced constantly. There were many times when I would sit and think, writing stories on scraps of paper that were supposedly true and highly confidential. My imagination was vast, and what I enjoyed was creating characters whom I would then impersonate. As I grew up, I began to record my thoughts more systematically and methodically, but I was afraid to recount them and share them with others, fearing ridicule and mockery. Imagine that neither my parents themselves, nor my siblings, knew about my passion for writing. 

 Films were a refuge for me, my oasis in the desert where I longed to lose myself in adventure and intrigue. My first amateur attempt at writing a book took place whilst I was studying in the city of Kozani, though it remained unfinished. What else did I try to write there? A detective adventure, the first part of which I completed ten years later. The documents came into my possession quite by chance whilst I was moving house; as I opened the boxes, I discovered my lost treasure. I shall never forget that day! It was a rainy day and very exhausting, as anyone who has ever moved house knows it’s a real slog... Anyway, as I was sorting through the boxes, I decided to open the fateful one labelled ‘Memories of Kozani’. A shiver ran through my body as if an electric current had passed through me, whilst I was deeply moved as I was surprised to find my first notebook, which I thought I had lost. That was it; the spark was reignited within me, and now the itch I felt in my system was gnawing at me daily to finish it... And so it was; within three hours I had read the text and drawn up a rough outline with characters and a plot. I didn’t want to change anything that had been written, even though there were signs suggesting otherwise; out of respect for my ten-year-old self, I carried on from there. The story came together relatively quickly, within five or six months, but it was never finished! Not until now, as I finish the second and final part, respecting my readers after several years of them constantly telling me that I’d left something unfinished! I feel the same way, which is why I promise to continue the story to its conclusion.

 In all the years that followed, I never stopped writing, with the result that I have created a modest body of work which I now have the joy and pleasure of sharing with people who love my writing and care about my stories. 

 At this time, I feel so energised that I want to set up a new publishing house here in Greece for writers who either do not have the inclination to go out and find a publisher like I did and self-publish, or who do not have the financial means to bring their work to the fore, or have been censored, or have not had other publishers show an interest in the stories they wish to present. In my publishing house, this will never happen! This is the aim, and this is what I will strive for on behalf of us all.

  I’ll answer by saying that, at this moment, the circumstances and timing are right. Now istheopportunity, after years of mature andstructured thought, to take this step, especially given that there is nothing in Greece comparable to what I want to create. Years ago, I was convinced that something would change and that many authors would have the opportunity to make their dream a reality by publishing a book and, why not, becoming popular with the wider public without being censored, or even avoid falling victim to financial fraud in order to get their book published! The prices, the lack of opportunities given to the author, and the disparagement of the author and their work give me the chance to dream of the endeavour of creating a new publishing house, different from the rest...

Every person who dreams also has a goal to pursue ...

   When we talk about goals, we can talk for hours, planning and analysing indicators and parameters. Without wishing to bore anyone who may be reading this article right now, I would like to briefly mention some goals that might be realistic.

If the idea comes to fruition, then we can talk about the realisation of the original concept, which is none other than the establishment of a new publishing house offering greater benefits for the author themselves and, by extension, for their works.

1. The purpose of this donation is to raise the necessary funds for the establishment of a new publishing house in Greece with distinctive characteristics.

2. Once the necessary funds have been raised, the search for a suitable location to house the publishing house will begin. (Specifically, I wish the location to be in northern Greece, and specifically in the city of Thessaloniki.)

3. Once a suitable location has been found, the process of establishing the company in the appropriate legal form will begin.

4. Purchase of the necessary professional equipment.

5. The next step is to begin staffing the company with capable and experienced personnel who are eager to work and create.

6. Setting up social media accounts tailored to the modern needs of the publishing industry.

7. Establishing distribution channels with bookshops and wholesalers.

8. Creation and design of a dedicated space for presentations.

9. Creation of a YouTube channel

10. Presentation of the new company to the media and to authors and readers.

11. Setting up a studio for recording audiobooks and fairy tales (at a later stage)

12. Creation of an internet station to promote authors and special programmes (at a later stage)

13. Establishment of bookshops (First phase in the city of Thessaloniki, Second phase in Northern Greece and Athens, Third phase: expansion to the rest of Greece) / At a later stage

14. Organisation of presentations abroad, particularly for the Greek diaspora worldwide, as well as for foreign cultural communities.
