My name is Pamela, and I started this fundraiser to support my cousin, Johanna.

My cousin has lived her entire life in our home country, the Dominican Republic, whereas I grew up here in Germany. Yet, even though we are thousands of miles apart, blood is thicker than water, and I would like to offer her some support through this campaign.

Johanna has been suffering from kidney failure for over two years and needs a kidney transplant. During this time, she has had to undergo multiple dialysis treatments every week.

Johanna is an incredibly vibrant young woman who fights every day for those precious little moments with her beautiful daughters. She plays with them, paints, helps with homework, and teaches them our grandparents' recipes. She loves her daughters with every fiber of her being and never lets her struggle show. New challenges arise daily, and I admire the way she handles them all.

It breaks our family's heart to see her health deteriorating. Dialysis is a life-saving procedure that takes over the kidneys' detoxification function; while it helps her hold on until she can get a transplant, it also places a heavy strain on her already weakened body. It is not a long-term solution, but we hope that her frequent weekly treatments will soon come to an end and that she will receive a new kidney.

Once that happens, she will soon have the strength to run through the garden with the girls or visit the beach again. Our family is praying for the speedy recovery of my wonderful cousin Johanna, and we will not stop supporting her, her husband Jestom, and their daughters—Brihanna (13), Tyra (10), and Meghan (7)—with all our strength. We are optimistic that, with your help, we can not only relieve some of the pressure on her shoulders but also help bring this heartbreaking situation to an end soon. In these dark times, as we become more aware of the fragility of life, we should remember that we are not alone. Our family is standing together now more than ever, and we will continue to do so—for Johanna, for her husband, and for her dear children, who would miss their wonderful mother so much.

With this fundraiser, we hope to relieve Johanna and her children of at least some of the financial burden.
