Description
Dear friends, family and kind souls,
It is with a heavy heart that we share the story of our daughterRekya, a wonderful little girl of just2 years old, who was tragically taken from us.
It all began on an ordinary day at the childminder’s, at a family-run nursery in the 78. Right from the trial period, we had doubts about the hygiene and the care conditions. Worried for our daughter, we asked the Early Years Service for a change of childminder, but our request was refused. Gradually, relations with the childminder became strained, to the point where we were no longer even allowed into her home. Our concerns were ignored by the management, who simply told us to give her time, claiming that everything she did was for our daughter’s well-being. The nursery manager even asked us to see the nursery psychologist to work on accepting the situation and the change of nanny. We naturally followed her advice for Rekya’s well-being and to ensure everything went smoothly during her time at the nursery.
Until the day the unthinkable happened.
On that day, the childminder gave Rekya large pieces of meat, which did not look tender and were about 2 cm in size. Rekya choked and went into cardiac arrest, with no CPR or call for help for 4 minutes. It was only when she fully realised the horror of the situation that the nanny, panicking, went out to seek help. It was eventually neighbours who attempted CPR and alerted the emergency services. After 33 long minutes of resuscitation, the ambulance doctor managed to revive her, but the damage was too severe.
Rushed to hospital, Rekya was placed in a medically induced coma for two days as doctors fought to save her. Her heart was beating, but her brain was no longer responding. On Monday 17 March, her heart stopped beating.
Added to our immense grief is a profound injustice: not a single member of the nursery staff contacted us to enquire after her during her ten days in hospital. Even after her death, we have received no message of support. An investigation is underway, but we are still without answers, left in silence and indifference.
Today, we are launching this fundraising campaign to cover the legal and funeral costs for our Rekya. We want justice to be done for her, because no parent deserves to go through this nightmare, and we hope that measures will be taken to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.
Every donation, every share, every word of support counts.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your help and solidarity.
