Description

Our Bichon Havanais, Mito (aged 13.5), has, within the space of two weeks, managed to scratch a deep wound twice in the same spot on his right eye, so we’ve had to visit the vet five times, two of which were during out-of-hours.

We do, of course, have insurance for Mito, but they reduce the veterinary care allowance by 3,000 SEK per year once the dog turns 7. It’s ridiculous, but that’s how it is. Now this amount is down to SEK 10,000 per year, and we’ve had to deal with stomach problems and joint pain that required X-rays, so now the cover is exhausted until the annual renewal in February 2025.

We’re two adults and a dog living on just one salary, so when extreme expenses like this arise, it becomes incredibly difficult for us.

Mito cannot be left home alone as he grew up with a doggy friend who sadly passed away when Mito was 11, so he is not used to being left completely alone at home. He can stay in his pet carrier for a short while whilst we’re out shopping for food, for example. He is also a rather nervous dog (despite his secure home life) who struggles with new environments, for example (we can’t even rearrange the furniture at home and move the sofa to the other side of the wall, as he gets anxious and confused), so he wouldn’t have coped well with being at a dog day-care centre in his later years, surrounded by lots of other dogs and unfamiliar people. Mito’s wellbeing is our priority; he is a much-loved member of the family.

The bill for his visits, including medication, has reached 10,168 SEK; we’ve received help with 6,000 SEK, so we’re still short of 4,000 SEK.

❤️Thank you so much for your kindness and donation! ❤️
