“Please help me... You see, my child has autism. What will happen to him when I am no longer here?”

That’s how one day began. A simple question... but one that breaks you in two. I was left speechless. Everything seemed to stop for a moment.

And on that same day, a neighbor stopped me and said: “Please... take care of Sergiu, if we die.”

There are moments when you can no longer look away, when you understand that doing good is no longer an option... it becomes a responsibility.

What would it be like to be in their place?

That’s how it all started. In 2009, I gathered a few children from the streets and offered them a home, a meal, a direction.

They had nothing. Neither did I. But they needed everything... and we grew together.

They made it. They became teachers, ordinary people, but also lawyers and social workers.

In 2019, we finished the first house and turned it into a foster home. There were 26.

26 children who grew up, who succeeded, and who gave me the courage to dream further.

And one day, sitting at the Christmas table with them, a question appeared:

What if we did more?

What if no child was ever left behind?

That’s how St. Maria Social Settlement was born.

Today, we are no longer talking about just a dream.

We have built 7 buildings.

Places that can become home for 60 children and for mothers in need.

Here, they will no longer shiver from the cold, fall asleep in fear, or feel that emptiness that weighs more than hunger.

Here, they will be protected, guided, and loved. They will learn to smile, to grow, to be children.

But we need help to welcome them. Because we are missing essential things. Simple things... but vital.

We need heat pumps, so no child will sleep in the cold.

We need electricity, so darkness is no longer their only reality.

We need furniture and equipment, so these spaces can come to life.

We have also built a Medical Center.

A place meant to save lives, but today it cannot treat or save anyone, because it lacks the necessary equipment.

Not long ago, someone nearby died, in a neighboring house, because the nearest medical center is over 12 km away. Not because there wasn’t a chance... but because help did not arrive in time.

We don’t want “too late” to exist anymore.

This center can mean a chance at life for the entire community.

It can mean life. But right now... it is just a promise waiting to be fulfilled.

We are building a place where a mother can hold her child without fear...

where a child learns they are not “less”... where a young person discovers they can become more than they were ever told.

A place where people work, learn, and heal. Where a local shop, a laundry, a barbershop are not just services... but chances, dignity, and a future. A place where every child receives what life once denied them: a real chance.

But without help... these doors remain closed. Without warmth, they remain empty. Without light, they remain cold. Without you, they remain just buildings.

You may never meet them, although you are always welcome to visit us.

But a child will sleep peacefully and have a fair chance in life because you chose not to walk away.

One day, a child will go to school with confidence... because you believed in them.

And because of you, a person will become more than they were given... because you were there, at the right time.

It’s not just a donation. Be the one who changes a child’s destiny.
