Description
A request to the admirers of Imre Földes
A commemorative volume was prepared in strict secrecy for the Professor’s 90th birthday, comprising reflections from his students, colleagues and admirers. The surprise worked, but it was the Professor’s wish that it should also be published in book form, so that everyone whose writing was included could receive a copy. The volume is already at the printers, but sadly he did not live to see its completion.
These recollections serve as a more lasting memorial to him than a gravestone: they clearly show the deep, lasting mark he left on all our lives. They showcase his teaching principles and his humanity, and there is no shortage of humorous anecdotes either. The 96-page volume contains 41 recollections, including contributions from Gábor Csalog, László Gőz, Gábor Hollerung, Máté Hollós, András Kemenes, György Lakatos, Eszter Lázár, Péter Nagy, Emőke Solymosi Tari, László Tihanyi and Tamás Zelinka. The volume is being produced partly through grants and partly at our own expense. We are therefore appealing to the Professor’s admirers to help bring it to fruition with small donations, thereby contributing to ensuring that the Professor’s memory is preserved in this form as well.
Donations are accepted via the 4fund fundraising service or to account number 16200151-18590104 held at MagNet Bank, on behalf of the Imre Földes Society by Géza Jakab, acting secretary. Please enter your name and the word ‘donation’ in the comments field.
Donations of over 5,000 HUF will be acknowledged with a copy of the book. We will issue a receipt upon request. We would be grateful if you could contact us at [email protected].
We aim to raise 300,000 forints for the book. Should we receive more than this amount, the surplus will be used to maintain Mr Tanár’s website (www.foldesimre.hu) and to publish his writings in print.
