Acting students in the desert: support the final-year drama students from Cluj-Napoca as they take part in the Cairo festival!
Students from the Hungarian Theatre Institute at the Faculty of Theatre and Film of Babeș–Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca are regular guests at the Cairo International University Theatre Festival.
What’s more, in recent years they have not only performed in Egypt’s capital, but have also consistently returned to Cluj-Napoca with prestigious awards.
We are delighted to report that the cohort due to graduate in 2027 has also been invited to this prestigious international festival, and so, between 24 and 30 October 2026, they will be able to take part in the festival’s professional programmes and present their latest production, entitled *Hamletgép*.
The class of nine will be accompanied on the trip by their form tutors and the production’s technical crew.
Whilst the festival organisers will provide some of the accommodation (for nine people) and full board for the group, the remaining accommodation costs, as well as the significant travel expenses, must be covered from other sources.
The aim of this fundraising campaign is to cover the outstanding accommodation and travel costs for the troupe’s participation in the Cairo festival.
If the initiative proves successful, the Cluj-Napoca theatre troupe will be able to take the fine reputation of the ‘treasure city’s’ acting training right to the foot of the pyramids, and perhaps bag a few more awards and accolades.
Please support the students and their chaperones’ journey with whatever small amount you can spare; we’ll be providing detailed updates on developments via the social media channels of the Hungarian Theatre Institute at BBTE!
