Since August 2024, with the tremendous support of many beloved people, we have been building a new headquarters in a beautiful forest location. We built the first wooden module in three months, and now we are excited to start on the second one. We will have more walls for books, more space for creativity, and more quiet for learning. Kaleidoscope is people

A little over 12 years ago, a mother from Gdansk woke up with the thought that there was little time left. Little time to find a good school for her son. She started looking and couldn't find such a place. Instead, she found people who couldn't find one either.

And that's when we were born. We, Kaleidoscope, the first democratic school in Gdansk.

Time for life

The people of Kaleidoscope - children and adults - often say that they can be themselves. We are not busy preparing for life - the time for life is now. For the feeling of boredom and for losing yourself in work. For urgent questions, for searching the answers. Plans and lack of a plan. Playing, sleeping, crying. There are no mistakes - there is experience. Adults and children have equal dignity and equal rights.

A year ago, we had to move our headquarters and—again with the help of wonderful people—we found a new place. A beautiful place, surrounded by forest, with wild boars, deer, and a colony of lizards. And without any buildings, so we decided to build one. Exactly where we are standing in the photo below.

The flying Kaleidoscope building – time for another 33%

We are financing our wonderful flying building from various sources. We purchased some of the materials thanks to an interest-free loan (which we will be paying back over several years), some companies give us large discounts, and others provide us with their products free of charge. We were able to finance up to 15% of the construction costs of the first module thanks to private donors.

The building consists of a noisy part—module #1, on the left, almost ready—and a contemplative part—module #2, on the right, which we have just started to build and which will give us more walls for books, more space for creativity, and more silence for learning. Finally, we will build a patio with colorful windows and a transparent roof.

The building was designed for us pro bono by the wonderful Tomek and Zosia from HAG - Human Architecture Group. Wooden, not connected to the ground. A flying building, becoming more and more spacious and beautiful.
