My name is Claudia and I am a proud "Cat Mom".

One of my young cats, his name is Bummelix (3 years old), has been suffering from a severe neurological disease with cerebral enlargement (the brain keeps swelling) and severe epileptic seizures since Christmas 2024. The exact cause has not yet been diagnosed.

The costs of the medical examinations and treatments are astronomical and no longer manageable for me alone - especially as the veterinary clinics do not grant any instalment payments.

The doctors are urging me not to give up, as Bummelix is an otherwise perfectly healthy and incredibly lovable cat. Another MRI and neuroconsil (~ 2000€) are pending after a hopefully more successful treatment (~ 500€).

However, further regular check-ups will be necessary to ensure that the swelling of the brain does not recur (further MRIs). As a preventative measure, Bummelix will have to take medication for epilepsy for the rest of his life.

And until further notice, I have to learn to manage the really terrible, involuntary epileptic seizures professionally with emergency anticonvulsants .

When I asked the neurologist (there are actually only 2 veterinary neurologists in Vienna) and a few other vets for advice on the subject of euthanasia, I was even told very rudely that it was too early for the euthanasia question.

And I don't want to get rid of Bummelix if I don't have to!

His brother Lauserix is also suffering and is currently extremely distraught. Lausi bites and swallows all sorts of things and had to be examined by the doctor himself last week because of the traumatic stress he is under.

My current debts for the examinations and treatments are now already around €12,500 - I can refinance part of this with a loan, but I urgently and quickly need money NOW for the all-important MRI (as I said, no instalment payments at veterinary clinics/doctors), after the recent reduction in his brain pressure, in order to finally get a diagnosis and thus be able to start targeted therapy .

I myself am also traumatised by the terrible events, the many weeks of anxiety, the sleepless nights and very demanding care. On top of that, I can no longer pay my bills for everyday life and am afraid of when my electricity etc. will be cut off...
