Description
(Every donor gets a reward – just read on to the end...)
My name is Claudia and I am a proud ‘cat mum’.
One of my young tomcats, whose name is Bummelix (aged 3), has been suffering since Christmas 2024 from a serious neurological condition involving cerebral oedema (the brain repeatedly swells up) and the severe epileptic seizures this causes. The exact cause has not yet been diagnosed.
The costs of medical examinations and treatments are astronomical and no longer manageable for me alone – especially as the veterinary clinics do not offer any payment plans.
The vets are urging me not to give up, as Bummelix is otherwise a perfectly healthy and incredibly lovable cat. Another MRI scan and a neurological consultation (~€2,000) are due following what I hope will be a more successful treatment (~€500).
However, further regular check-ups will be necessary to ensure that the brain swelling does not recur (further MRIs). As a preventive measure, Bummelix must take anti-epileptic medication for the rest of his life.
And, for the time being, I have to learn how to deal professionally with the truly terrible, involuntary epileptic seizures using emergency anticonvulsants .
When I asked the neurologist (there are actually only two veterinary neurologists in Vienna) and a few other vets for advice on euthanasia, I was even snapped at quite rudely that it was too early to be asking about euthanasia.
And I don’t want to get rid of Bummelix either, unless it’s absolutely necessary!
His brother Lauserix is also suffering and is currently extremely distressed. Lausi bites and swallows all sorts of things and had to be examined by a vet himself last week due to the traumatic stress he is under.
My current debts for the examinations and treatments now stand at around €12,500 – I can refinance part of this via a loan, but I urgently need money NOW for the vital MRI scan (as I said, veterinary clinics and vets do not offer payment by instalments), following the recent reduction in the pressure on his brain, so that we can finally get a diagnosis and start targeted treatment .
I myself am also traumatised by the terrible events, the many weeks of anxiety, the sleepless nights and the very demanding care. On top of that, I can no longer pay my everyday bills and am afraid of when my electricity and so on will be cut off…
I BEG, I IMPLORE you for support and help!
Every donation, no matter how small, helps!
