Description

In August 2024, during our trip to Malaysia, just before boarding the boat, we spotted this little creature in a terrible state on the pavement. As dogs are neither wanted nor respected in Malaysia, this came as no surprise to us. As we approached, we were horrified to discover the festering, infected open wounds on this poor little dog, only a few months old. He was waiting by the side of the road, surely for death to come and take him. At that moment, we didn’t think twice; it was unthinkable to continue our journey without doing something. We took this little one – who would later be named Borneo in honour of her home island – to the nearest veterinary clinic. We paid the costs for a month’s treatment and care. Parts of her ears had to be amputated as the tissue was necrotic; she was covered in hundreds of ticks and had maggots in her wounds – it was a terrible sight. the veterinary clinic gave us updates every day; they weren’t sure they could save her, but this little fighter fought to survive. Today she is doing much better, with just one concern: her future is uncertain. We are in contact with the only animal welfare organisation on the entire island of Borneo, which looks after more than 3,000 dogs, we feel we must bring her home to give her a dignified life, the one she deserves. However, the costs amount to €3,000. Unfortunately, we do not have sufficient funds to complete this rescue, which is very close to our hearts. Indeed, she will need to be transported to Europe via four different flights, and she will need to undergo two periods of quarantine, one of which lasts two months, in order to leave the country. On top of this are airport charges, the necessary certificates and the paperwork. We need your help; Borneo needs your help. She has the right to live her life on the beach, in a house with a garden and a loving home. For Borneo.
