First very demanding long-distance trail in Croatia

It's never too late to do something special.

A project to create a full trail record for an e-book and mobile app for the Via Adriatica trail. This trail connecting the two most remote points of Croatia, 1100 km of mostly mountain hiking, 56 km of ascent, about 2 mths of very demanding walking.

Yes, I did it. I have completed walking the entire trail.

Now it's time for a guidebook, hence the continuation of this drop.

First Polish crossing of the Via Adriatica trail, solo, with no outside support or backers. After setting off on 1 May from Pula and then from Cape Kamenjak and after covering 1,237 km and 1,673,000 steps, I reached the edge of Cape Prevlaka at noon on Sunday 6 July 2025r. The whole thing took me 67 days. Crossing exclusively on foot, with all the necessary equipment and provisions in my backpack. Fires, downpours, storms and heat were something that accompanied me every day, carrying on my back luggage weighing between 18 and even 25 kg, depending on the particular section and the provisions and water needed.

Yes, I know there are a few people who do exceptional long-distance routes with much longer distances. In my case, it was not about just crossing the road in complete silence, but precisely about showing as much as possible during the hike. I wanted to show unique nature, monuments, towns, villages, national parks, natural phenomena, well-known places and those hidden in thick greenery or high in the mountains. I also wanted to show all the things to look out for when venturing into wild inland areas, such as venomous spiders, bears, jackals or rhinoceros vipers, which are a regular feature of less popular mountain areas.

Everyone can help and everyone can become part of this project.

The aim of this project is to create a detailed documentation of the route and produce a guidebook that will become a practical support for anyone dreaming of a similar expedition. I want this guide to help plan hikes for all nature and adventure lovers who, in addition to the beautiful beaches of Croatia, want to discover its lesser-known face - mountains full of raw beauty and unforgettable landscapes. My aim was not only to walk the entire trail, but to fully document it descriptively, photographically and on film. A daily record of the trail and the creation of documentation with all the elements that can help and facilitate the hike on all or parts of this unique trail. From access/approach to the various sections of the trail, to practical information such as accommodation and its various forms, shops and places to eat and resupply, a description of the trail itself and infrastructure elements, practical information (permits, tickets, fees, etc.). The trail can be hiked in record time by a few daredevils, if only by running, but I was going to make a full documentation to serve the next ones. This involves a daily regimen of descriptive, photographic and video documentation, while controlling the overall course of the trail.

The Via Adriatica Trail is an extraordinary walking route that leads through the most picturesque and diverse areas of Croatia, combining the richness of nature with the unique cultural heritage of the Adriatic coast. The approximately 1,100-kilometre trail starts on the Istrian peninsula, near the village of Premantura, and ends at the southern end of the country, in Prevlace near Dubrovnik.

The route is a challenge even for experienced hikers - two months of walking through varied terrain means that every day brings new excitement and views. The trek leads through rocky mountains, dense forests, vast plains and a picturesque coastline, offering an unforgettable experience and proximity to nature.

The Via Adriatica Trail is more than a trail - it's a journey through the heart and soul of Croatia, perfect for those looking for adventure, solitude and the opportunity to experience this beautiful country from a whole new perspective.

Each section is several days of hiking. During the passage I created detailed descriptions of each of the stages, broken down by day. Photo - video and descriptive documentation, will create a practical guide for anyone wishing to repeat the entire trail or its individual sections.The idea of walking the trail.

To show the whole of Croatia, known to tourists mainly from the coastal areas and popular tourist cities. To show the great diversity of the many regions and areas through which the Via Adriatica Trail runs. Although Croatia is small, it has so much to show. It is a real melting pot of nature and culture worth getting to know.
