Costache Vasile, aged 55, a young grandfather and a wonderful father, was given a devastating diagnosis in October this year.  

In October, whilst admitted to a hospital in Bucharest, Costache Vasile was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer (a rare form) as his primary diagnosis, stage 4, with secondary diagnoses including a malignant liver tumour, COPD, pneumonia, embolism, apnoea and others. With no hope of treatment in our country, and the condition being inoperable, we were advised to go to the oncology department solely for treatment. Terrified by so many diagnoses, we sought a second opinion, and on the verbal recommendation of another doctor, we were advised to try Turkey as soon as possible. 

No sooner said than done, we arrived at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey, where he underwent a PET-CT scan and a brain MRI. Fortunately, it was found that, apart from the lungs, he has no metastases in the liver or brain, does not have pneumonia, COPD or embolism, and we need to focus solely on the malignant tumour, which measures approximately 11 cm according to the PET scan at Acibadem. As it is stage 3, chemotherapy has already begun, with three days of treatment every three weeks. 

Unfortunately, our funds and other financial resources are running out, which is why we are appealing to your kindness, as he has a much better chance of recovery in Turkey than in Romania. 

In December, we are due to leave on the 8th and will stay until 29–30 December, as the doctors there will give him 3 days of chemotherapy plus 30 sessions of radiotherapy to the lungs, followed by a further 10 sessions of radiotherapy to the head, after which he will undergo chemotherapy and immunotherapy. 

December will be very demanding financially, as the costs are very high and we will be staying there for many days, and the immunotherapy sessions are also quite expensive. 

We beg you from the bottom of our hearts; we need your support and that of others, as his life depends on a large sum of money, which we have been told is required, though not impossible to raise. We are also awaiting the pro forma invoices which they said they would provide us with before each session.

The costs will amount to approximately 50,000 euros.

It is so hard to know that you can be cured, but everything depends on some paperwork...
