God always puts people in our path for a reason. A good person brings forth good things from the storehouse of a good heart, whilst a bad person brings forth bad things from the storehouse of an evil heart. God sends not only those who need to fill their own emptiness, but also those who can make up for your shortcomings. Hello. Imagine a life where your home is an uninsulated gazebo, where the cold seeps through every crack. Imagine a daily existence filled with hunger, loneliness and helplessness. This is my reality – that of a person who, despite my many sufferings, still has a heart full of love for animals and faith in human kindness.

For several years now, I have been living in a gazebo on an allotment. It is the only shelter I share with 16 homeless cats; sometimes I don’t even have enough food for them

Since childhood, I have struggled with many illnesses: phlebitis, psoriasis, spinal degeneration, heart disease, epilepsy and deafness. One leg is 6 cm shorter than the other. Doctors have declared me unfit for work. Life has not spared me from the very beginning...

It’s no easier now – I live on what I get from social security; my daily life is a struggle for survival. I’m hungry more often than I’m full. When I have bread, I think about what I’ll eat tomorrow. As they say, if you’re not going hungry and you have money to pay the bills, that means you’re already a happy person. I’m over 60 and I still hoard food and save every uneaten scrap. I remember when I used to be hungry and had only a tiny portion to eat... with no second helpings. At night, the cold chills me to the bone, 

my shed is a room with a stove, no bathroom or toilet. The door is rotten, and the gaps in the windows are stuffed with rags. I burn wood in the stove all night long just to keep a little warm. 

Despite his own suffering, his heart is full of kindness. He cares for homeless animals, sharing with them everything he has. My greatest dream is to renovate the shed: replacing the doors and windows, painting the walls and buying fuel for the winter
