Hello!!

My name is Alexandra Petkova, or Alya for short.

I’m an up-and-coming jazz singer, and I also compose, do a bit of arranging and play the piano.❤️

I was introduced to music almost five years ago, but I only truly realised its significance in my life three or four years ago... 💕

I am currently in my final year as a student at the Lyubomir Pipkov National Music School, specialising in ‘Pop and Jazz Singing’.

I recently had the opportunity to take part in this year’s summer programme at Berklee College of Music – Berklee at Umbria Jazz Clinics 2025. There, I learnt countless things about music and life, listened to and learnt from some of the greatest jazz musicians of the moment, and met people who will remain my lifelong friends and colleagues. I am so grateful to have been awarded a partial scholarship for a bachelor’s degree at Berklee College of Music!

You know, getting into Berklee is a huge challenge. They only accept the most talented and dedicated musicians from all over the world. That’s why this scholarship is a massive recognition of my hard work and potential. The sum of $25,000 a year is a great help, but it still doesn’t cover the full tuition fee.

Berklee College of Music is located in Boston, Massachusetts, and is the largest independent school of contemporary music in the world.

With the funds raised, I hope to cover part of the remaining tuition fees, and perhaps even the whole amount... :))! I will be infinitely grateful for every lev donated, which will help me to continue with my music and share art with people and the world!

I perform at various venues – festivals, competitions, as well as jam sessions in jazz bars.

For example:

Youth Jazz Fest 2025, where I was awarded first place for my solo performance and second place for my composition – "In this Life".

With the same song, I also took second place in the third edition of the Musicautor competition – "Youth Competition for New Songs", which gives me the opportunity to record at BNR... (and perhaps the debut of my original song sometime in the spring!!)

And this year, for the first time, I took part in the Bansko Jazz Fest with the jazz sextet “Art Libitum”, led by Yordan Vladev. There, I had the opportunity to learn from the best jazz musicians in Bulgaria by taking part in the jazz academy!
