Forever July - A chance of a cure!

At just 15 months old, our son Julius received a diagnosis in July 2020 that changed our lives forever: cancer - a high-risk neuroblastoma. Unfortunately, a very aggressive type of cancer. In addition to the main tumour on the adrenal gland, the cancer had already spread to the bone marrow and various bones from the skull to the legs.

Instead of a carefree childhood, countless hospitalisations followed:

• 6 operations
• 8 blocks of chemotherapy
• 1 high-dose chemo with stem cell transplantation
• 20 radiotherapy sessions
• 6 blocks of immunotherapy.

His little body had to endure unimaginable hardships - but Julius fought. And he made it!

After a year and a half of pain and hope, the redemptive news came: remission. For almost two years, he was able to be cancer-free, play, laugh and simply be a child again.

But then came the shock: in June 2024, shortly after his fourth birthday, the cancer returned - a dangerous recurrence in the sphenoid sinus in his head and therefore also in his central nervous system.

Hospital again:

• 1 major head operation to remove the tumour
• 8 blocks of chemotherapy
• 13 radiotherapy sessions
• (so far) 4 blocks of immunotherapy

Since then, Julius has had no normal everyday life - but he won't give up. He continues to fight, every day.

Now there is a chance to support his fight: a personalised, tumour-specific vaccination therapy here at a German biotechnology company in Tübingen.

This therapy is intended to help train his immune system specifically against the cancer. To this end, Julius' own tumour cells are used to produce a personalised vaccine. The aim is for his body to recognise and fight the cancer - and prevent another relapse.

However, this therapy is not yet a standard health insurance benefit. We have to bear the costs ourselves - an enormous financial burden in an already difficult time.

What happens with the donations?

The donations are primarily used for our child's vital treatment and associated costs such as travel expenses, overnight stays during treatment and necessary medication. Every euro goes directly towards his recovery.

If our child loses the battle against cancer or the donations are not needed in full, we have decided to pass the money on:

• One part will go to the Fördergesellschaft Kinderkrebs-Neuroblastom-Forschung e.V. to support research against this insidious disease.
• The other part is donated directly to other affected families whose children also need financial help for their treatments.
